Summary

Role playing entertainment is a franchise that is not only present in the video games industry, but is also a part of tabletop board games. In fact, it originated in the latter. 3DO Studios have ambitiously attempted to combine the two game types into the PC series, Heroes of Might and Magic. The sequel, cleverly titled Heroes 2, looks set to be more advanced than its predecessor, and the final result should prove it to be a better game.

In this particular episode, the fantasy kingdom has been plunged into a civil war due to the death of Lord Ironfist. And now the ultimate prise is at steak, the chance to win succession to the throne and rule the land.

You will begin your game as one of the competitors for the prestigious prise. Before you can begin your challenge, you must create a fearsome party that should consist of wizards, warriors and sorceresses. There are many character classes that comprise as many as 65 heroes. Game improvements mean that new monster types, skill levels and spells have been added to Heroes 2. Manoeuvring around the game’s world map is turn-based, as you are given a certain number of paces before you must turn over the egg timer. When encountering enemies, you will be taken to an arena where your players will battle the opposition. Included in the battle is an automated function that should only be used if your characters are strong enough and you are certain of victory.

A 6-players mode over the Internet offers a wider range of challenges, but as a whole, it has done what it set out to do; to become a challenging, involving RPG.
