Many gamers consider Lucasarts as the king of graphic adventures. They have a history of developing high-quality, engaging games that have a balance of genuinely funny comedy with tricky, but not frustrating puzzles. The curse of Monkey Island is the third in the popular Monkey Island series and is available for a small sum of money these days. Quality gameplay, belly laughs and a cheap retail price add up to one game that you cannot miss.
In The Curse of Monkey Island you play the hero, Guybrush Threepwood, who has been lost at sea for days. You finally see land but unfortunately there is a pirate battle taking place at the island and you are picked up and taken prisoner. It just so happens that your captor is none other than your nemesis, the evil zombie pirate LeChuck. You must escape from your dungeon, defeat LeChucks undead army and rescue your true love Elaine Marley.
The graphics in Curse of Monkey Island are drawn in a cartoon style and are well animated. The interface also works well, if you hold your mouse over an item, person or object you will be presented with a giant token, that you can use to select your different actions. You can use, talk, or look depending on the situation. You can also combine your inventory items together to make useful contraptions.
The puzzles require lateral thinking, and even though some of them can be tough, its a rewarding feeling when you do finally figure them out. For example, you can belittle a pirate and undermine his confidence, so that you can take control of his cannon. You are presented with several possible dialogue choices and you decide how you want the conversation to go. You are almost guaranteed funny choices and sometimes its worth choosing them all, one by one, just so you can hear the reply.
Overall, The Curse of Monkey Island is one of the best graphic adventures available for the PC.
