Summary

Bad Street Brawler is an early side-on scrolling Beat'Em Up for the NES. You control a serious looking bloke called Duke Davis who walks around wearing an outfit similar to wrestlers from the 80's (how can he be serious walking around like that? - Ed). Oh, and apparently he is a martial arts expert with a few scores to settle. The streets of Mr Davis' home town have been made extremely dangerous by numerous thugs, punks, circus freaks and rabid dogs. It is up to you to clean up the mess and restore order to the streets.

The gameplay is straightforward enough - you must beat the living daylights out of whoever or whatever crosses your path. Duke has 15 different moves in his arsenal, but can only use three at any time in each round. Unfortunately, these three moves are chosen for you. Some of the thugs carry weapons, such as baseball bats, chains and knives. Now, this is where Bad Street Brawler is different from other Beat'Em Ups (think Double Dragon, Final Fight or Streets of Rage etc.). When an opponent drops a weapon, instead of using their weapons against them, you collect them and are given extra points for throwing them in a trash can. So, you see, Duke is really cleaning up the streets!

Graphically, Bad Street Brawler is nothing special and is quite poor even by NES standards. The music is better turned off due to its repetitive nature and sound effects are awful. With only two buttons to press, executing either a punch or a kick manoeuvre, the controls are easy enough to use, but are a tad basic. Overall, Bad Street Brawler will probably keep you amused for about 30 minutes, all of which spent laughing at Duke Davis' outfit.
