Summary

In a future plagued by fear, bizarre meteorites rain from the sky. Bursting upon impact, they expel metallic tendrils that invade every life-form. The fate of the world rests on the shoulders of one young woman, a woman who with the help of her father, will become a harbinger of destruction.

Just such a scene is set in the opening segment of Steel Harbinger, which has to be one of the longest and most drawn out introductory sequences ever seen on a PSX disc. It promises a lot, with our heroine initially being infected with an alien virus, but with dad being a doctor and all that, she somehow retains some human traits, which basically boils down to being able to tell between good and evil. Dad good, alien invasion bad, you know the kind of thing.

You have to start somewhere, and if your attention hasn’t wandered during the introduction, you will find yourself at the start of the adventure, in Kansas. Fending off the unwanted attentions of mutant dogs and infected human hybrids as you dart around the streets looking for weaponry and keycards, our scantily-clad heroine is able to keep in touch with her father, and receive instructions on what she will need to pick up and progress to the next level. Then you may find yourself fighting the baddies in Antarctica, or even on the moon, thanks to the handily placed teleporters.

You will be able to harvest all you need to become the toughest babe in combat history, armed with an extensive arsenal of weapons, and quite a few modes of transport, such as tanks and hover-vehicles. So, there is no excuse, get out there and kick some barely-concealed ass!
