SPOnG: Capcom fighting games have offered costume packs via DLC. Obviously you've not said anything about regarding Marvel vs Capcom 3, but if you were to go down that route would you want to do more than just costume packs?
Ryota Niitsuma: We're still in the process of selecting what should be in the DLC packs and what shouldn't, never mind having to actually start the creation of it. So there's not much we can say about it now, but soon enough we should be able to announce what our plans will be. There will be some, that's for sure.
SPOnG: Do you think that costume packs and multiplayer modes as DLC offer good value for money for fans though? Is this a good trend for Capcom to be following, or do you feel you need to be adding more value?
Ryota Niitsuma: I think it differs depending on what genre of game we're talking about, really. But ultimately the fans speak for themselves. If they feel the DLC adds to the value and the longevity of the gameplay, then that probably is a right direction, in their mind, for us to take.
SPOnG: How do you go about balancing the characters? There's bound to be several different characters with varying stances, moves and styles – I know it's been ten years since the last Marvel vs Capcom game, but have you taken on board any fan feedback when it comes to balancing?
Ryota Niitsuma: Balancing the characters is a big thing for us, and we're aware of what some people have been saying about that matter. To make sure we get this right, we've showed this game at EVO, E3, Comic Con, and many other public places this year so that fighting game players can trial it. And of course, all of these hardcore fans come up to us and tell us what we should do.
We take all of those comments on board positively, and consider them greatly, but sometimes what people ask us - or tell us to do – tend to be temperamental. You know, they say one thing at a certain point in time, but may say another thing at a later date.
So we try to look at the big picture – what the general community is trying to say, rather than listening to individuals. But to answer your question, yes we do listen to the community, but in a big picture.
SPOnG: Do you think Daigo will come along and master Marvel vs Capcom 3 as he has with various Street Fighter titles?
Ryota Niitsuma: Well, Daigo's quite good at
Street Fighter, but when it comes to the '
Versus' franchise there tends to be better people in the States. So perhaps he would have a hard time fighting off those people (laughs).
Capcom PR's Fighting Game Expert: Daigo has excellent Yomi skills, so his speciality is to read the opponent. It is generally accepted that there are people who have better technical skills than he does. His match-reading ability is so powerful that it overcomes all opponents.
SPOnG: People better than Daigo? That's fighting talk, that is! Thanks a lot for your time.
Ryota Niitsuma: Thank you very much!
