Thankfully, SPOnG has a particularly sweet tooth, and this issue never posed a problem with us. But it is a matter of personal preference, and like they say: if you can’t stand the sweet, get out of the Pikmin. If you can tolerate, or are a fan of, the bouncy Playschool vibe, Pikmin 2 is sure to find a place in your heart. There’s nothing else like it (apart from its predecessor), it offers plenty of challenge and it’s a game that’s happy to be replayed after completion. In fact, as soon as we’ve fixed ourselves a pint of undiluted Kia Ora, we’re going to fire it up again.

SPOnG rating: A

Pikmin 2 takes everything good about the original and makes it better. It’s one of the deepest games available on the Gamecube, and one of the most unusual on any platform. We love it, the kids love it and your mum loves it. Good work Nintendo.
