Yeah right. Music is mainly incidental - its there to provide/exagerate atmosphere and that is really as far as it goes. I dont notice the films industry trumpeting the much overlooked music that its industry churns out.

This sounds more like an extention of the mobile ringtones as music phenomena. That said the music on bitmap Bros Xenon 2 was ace..... oh yeah that was Bomb the Bass.

So the music of WipeOut, n2o, Duke Nukem - Total Meltdown isn't real music? It's music that's there to exaggerate/provide atmosphere. Artists who made/make music whether it be for a game or for profit. Music is music. Whether it's popular or marketable is a different situation entirely. If it's a few blips and beeps lumped together for background noise or a whole symphony orchestra playing the opening theme, it's still music. Anyway, I'm exicited. They better come to Raido City...

How can you describe atmosphere enhancing music as incidental? Are all John Williams movie compositions simply incidental? Would Star Wars/ Raider of the Lost Ark/ Jurassic Park/ Schindler's List be the same amazing cinematic experiences without the soundtrack?

Fair enough, I wouldn't travel further than 30 miles to see this concert, but dant diss da soundz, dawg! (or something)

Sorry Puck, but you are outnumbered on this one. Game music has been celebrated in japan and other countries when many of us have forgotten about it. Sure it was once bleeps and blips but from the days of the C64/AMIGA/SNES/MD things got better.

You know what? If these concerts come to europe/u.k, I'm gonna go because one only has to listen to the work of Nobuo Uematsu, Yuzo Koshiro, Koji Kondo etc to see game music can be very good, and would hopefully surprise a lot of traditional classical music buffs. And the great thing is game music covers other music genre too.

Also note the work of Harry Gregson-Williams, who not only worked on the Metal Gear series but also does outstanding work with movies you've seen but perhaps never bothered to read the credits to find out his name. John Williams deserves respect as does HG- Williams.

True, music is music and is there to be listened to and enjoyed. Plenty of people don't understand german but listen to classical music so I'm certainly not gonna feel strange for listening to game music where ever it is from, because of preconceptions. None of us should as it was made with us gamers in mind. If others discover it too, then that's probably one less person buying cookie cutter chart bs. The world is a better place.

Well, I'm off to order my new Ridge Racers OST album (yes, from the PSP game). Namco Sound Team create some great music and been waiting ages for some new Ridge Racer tunes.

Oh yeah follow the link and read the HG-W interview.

For anybody who is interested in C64 revival music, check out Press Play on Tape - a live Copenhagen band who play old C64 tunes live on real instruments.

From their site;

"I never thought that 15 years later these tunes would be played live!! I am very honoured indeed!" -- Rob Hubbard
"You've captured the original perfectly" -- Ben Daglish on Krakout
"I was well impressed!" -- David Whittaker on Beyond the Ice Palace

They have released CDs and played live at conventions and gatherings.

You just have to check out their version of Crazy Comets!

Again, live with real instruments, like guitars and drums!!
