Oh yeah, the good ol' Irish-Americans. Considering the English were the catalyst for colonising what is now the US, you can only presume the Anglo-Americans died out during the Depression, because you never hear about them.

Take YOU over? And what's YOU? Modern America was formed when Europeans were at their most adventurous. The game they played during the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries was to colonise whichever "New World" they could dominate first. Ever heard of the "Pilgrim Fathers"? They sailed from Plymouth, Devon, UK on the Mayflower. They colonised the east coast of a certain stretch of North America, and the descendants of these Puritans pushed back the native American’s further and further west, resulting in them becoming a minority.

And the US War of Independence was waged by wealthy landowners, not willing to pay the hefty taxes and land registry fees charged by Britain. They were so wealthy they could afford to form an army, which along with French forces, were worthy of challenging the British Army. They won, but early US nationals were mainly descendants of the British themselves; it's just now they were paying taxes to other British descendants.

I don't blame your over nationalist, utopian view of the US. Powerful, giant super-states tend to have that effect on their populace. But to view America as the answer to all the worlds problems is naive (which I believe you do).

I'm off to bed, no doubt I'll have a fascinating reply to counter in the morning.

As an English man, I find American Nationalism the funniest thing ever. You preach freedom and liberty, but you can't stand liberals. Conservatism is two-steps away from fasicism, and it's knocking your country to the ground. In response to the last post, Neo, you are very ignorant of history. The British Empire had at it's height 300 countries under it's name. America isn't a colony par-se. It was founded by Englishmen who had had enough of England. That is the American Dream. Escape.

In response to America singlehandedly winning World War 2, again Nationalist bullshit and my mate (a war enthusiast) goes to great lengths to point out how America helped, but mostly hindered in actual fighting. The only two of the five beaches stormed on Normandy that failed were American. Omaha and, I think correct me if I'm wrong but I confuse the names, Gold.

America's current height is wavering. There is angst inside the nation, and anti-americanist feelings growing in Europe. America may last another century at the top, at the most, but the economy is weak. I've noticed it strengthen a bit recently, but it's still remarkably low. But this is a phase that threatens all nations. England was top for a couple of centuries, the pioneers of capitalism. Before then we had the Greeks and Romans and Spanish, but look at them now.

The next nation on top is China I think. Their economy has boosted so much recently, and the growth of cities and towns is, really, quite amazing.

America isn't going anywhere, if we go the whole world goes with us and if you disagree your full of it. USA is where all the money in the world circulates. The only why we are going is if bin laden or some stupid taliban bombs use with a nuke, which is a long shot being as how they use our money.
I don't hate europeans or any country for that matter, I started this whole history lesson because of some prick talking s**t about my country and I fired back. So if we are all done lets post about video games not world history.

If America went down, the world would continue. Considering the American economy, you would be a retard to circulate any money in the American currency. That's just bad finance. I agree, somewhat relucatantly perhaps, that a lot of countries rely on America, hence the very large Coalition force in Iraq during the war. Most countries were pressured into it though I feel because America has a powerful army.

And America isn't about freedom. If it was the Democrats would be in office.

Oh and dont tell me, you believe in a god as well.

Really and europe is freedom? It's funny you know more about our country than your own, I wonder why? I rest my case, I don't need to clarify anymore.

What the hell is your case? That America is the place of liberty? Where the vast majority is actually conservative and not very considerate of other people's freedoms at all? With your reasoned line of arguing I'm beaten for sure.

You know the usa helped you and other countries alot, yet we get s**t from pricks like you who didn't deserve help, crap like, america is not about freedom and americans are stupid and the list goes on. You fail to mention you owe us more gratitude.

the day i'm envious of the united states is the day hell freezes over. actually i think you'l find you started this rather skewed "history lesson" is because you couldn't cope with someone expressing their so called freedom of speach. You're so f**king typically republican american it makes me sick.

Comments like this just call your entire credibility into question. OK, so does everything else you say, but this just proves you either have no clue, or are in such a state of denial that nothing you say it true.

You make me ashamed to be your compatriate.

Someone said that the only reason the English don't speak German today was because of us... but the only reason we DO speak English is because of them.

im not very good at history, and i dont know that much about ww2 (i hate history, its boring), but i do know that alot of swedes (im a swede) emigrated from here when it was bad times, and went to america. and what did they do? they built it!

if you were an american, you would probarbly be a native america. right now, you are probarbly part european, or african if you are a black man. so why bash us?

and the freedom you speak so greatly of, where is it? ive heard stories about ppl that write something about america on their blogs, the next day the feds bust them. why? because they are "a threat to the nation", which is great pile of bullshit. bush doesnt like ppl takling bad about him, and therfor he sends them away. america is one of the greatest nations that still wants to torture ppl (some years ago there was a vote about this in un or something) and the only country that voted that torture should still be allowed was usa. the only country that has ever disobeyed the international court (dont know the name) is america. they dont give a crap about the rest of the world. they say that they are going to liberate iraq and s**t. what they really mean is that they dont have control of it anylonger, so they need to put a new puppet there. i dont understand why usa has to be the worldcop all the time, and i surely dont understand why european countries follow them. i wish the world would have voted for what president should be in the white house. then bush would loose biiiig time with only facist bastards israel voting for them.

oh and btw, i saw a movie some days ago which shows 14 things you do when you are a fascist country, and usa had them all. great country right?
