neocarrillo... i think you rock!!! *wink, thumbs up*

anyway, i don't particularly think the DS sales is particularly comparable to those of the PSP for two reasons:
1. The DS has been out much longer than the PSP and
2. The DS and PSP arn't supposed to be comparable, it is like comparing the Gameboy's sales to the Playstation's (remember it is the "third tier").

Yeah i don't believe that bullshit either. Am i the only one to think that the touch screen is too far away from your hand to use the thumb strap? it hurts my thumb :o(

////////////////////////////////////////////

In reply to number one The two could have been on an even selling keel for once in possible gaming history ( remember they were both supposed to come out in March 2005, possibly outside of japan) but if you gamefans recall it was Sony that bailed at the last minute. Don't these actions shout "a little bit scared of facing Nintendo evenly in stores" to you? Certainly doesn't scream "we have confidence in our product mashing Nintendo" to me at all. And when was the last time two console where released so close to each other? This kind of thing hardly ever happens so to claim such a lame argurment is beyond my understanding. Remember it was Sony's who chose to delay. If PSP is that good they should have released at the same time as originally planned. The scrap for sales would have been cool to watch (I was so looking forward to it too).

In repsonse to two: Be careful with your DS groupy labelling. I own several machines and games so don't go putting me (or others) in a box because I'm putting across valid points that you fail to see because you like PSP so much. Sure I like Nintendo stuff but I also like anything else that can give me a good gaming experience regardless of what it plays on. I will be buying both DS and PSP, but DS first because it's cheaper and I want something to inspire me as to why I still love games.

While some might gripe about the DS in the gaming press it is the public that will decide regardless of what we monkeys here think. Whether you like it or not the DS has interesting features. The main one mentioned is the stylus and screen. Because most people on this planet know how to write/draw use a pen/pencil/brush (or even a mouse on a PC) they can get to gaming on the DS in seconds. Try this with PSP and the controls have to be taught and blundered through and many older/non gamers don't have that kind of patience and may give up easily.

If any of you gamers out there have both DS and PSP perhaps try teaching a non gamer like you mother or father to play both and you'll see what I mean, and what Nintendo was going on about ages ago concerning controls becoming more complex and alienating many older/non gamers. It's these non gamers (especially the female crowd) who you and I should want to buy games and consoles too and not just the usual mainstream/hardcore bunch. With so many players trying to sell their games in todays industry, the DS (like for example Xbox Live for Xbox) will help bring in more older/non gamers in it's own way.

If you can't see that as a positive then you have to ask yourself are you really a gamer or not? Don't you want more non gaming people to experience the delights of gaming even if it's through the DS first? This is already what is happening, and true PSP will have shot at doing so too but not like the more accessable DS interface.

Hope you enjoyed the long post.

By the way Neo, calling people "gay" might be okay where you come from but it's not a good idea to use it on a forum. Remember folk from different nations are here too so try to be at least a little bit more original, sensitive and careful with your insults.

Thank you for reading.

i think this arguing is too fanboyish and more or less really retarded. fanboys are gay, devote to one company, and miss out on waaaaay too much. i dont like sony much juss becuz they way they treat their customers, i dont own and playstation consoles, but i play them.

i do find it very surprising that the DS is outselling the PSP... considerin the DS has been out waaaay longer.

Yeah, I haven't tried given it to my parents or anything, but I have found people I know who are reluctant to play games taking interest in my DS. One guy managed to beat my high score on the minigame in Mario where you have to sort the red and black bombs into squares. And it's not like he overtook my score a little, it was a lot, and several times since.

Ok sorry for the gay comments. "PSP and the controls have to be taught and blundered through and many older/non gamers don't have that kind of patience and may give up easily." The psp's control's are the same as the dual shock controls, so how will people have to be taught something that 80+ million ps2 owners already know? Mind you many older/non gamers play ps2. Psp even has a analog stick something the ds don't have, which is very important in a 3d console wheter portable or not.
The ds touch features are interesting but I can do that on a pda. I know psp's video and music features can be done on other devices aswell but here's the difference, how many people use touch devices compared to music player and video player devices. Psp combines the 3 everyday functions people use into one unit. Example, I love music so I have an ipod, I love video so I have a portable dvd player or a pocket pc. The psp gives people games, music and video's all in one small beautiful device.
I don't care about ds and it's features. Sony and other companies need the competition so they can produce even better products.

True analogue controls are standard now but do you remember what it was like before them? We were comfortable then but we adjusted and embrace the new to enhance our gaming and it was Nintendo again that gave us console analogue sticks we now take for granted, even on PS2 and Xbox. This is all the DS is doing in a different way and a way that can'treally be copied like the way analogue controllers were. Hopefully you'll see more of these new kind of controls with Revolution at E3.

Sure you can use a stylus on a PDA, but do you already own a PDA and do you like its games? And if you do own one how many other people do you know who also own a PDA? I personally don't know anyone that does own a PDA, but I'm more likely to find someone that owns a DS with decent games. The DS is not too expensive like most PDAs and has decent games support unlike most PDAs.

Dude the point you are missing is who those 80million PS2 owners are? Are they people over 40 or 50? And what percentage of those 80million are young females. Gaming should be for everyone of any age. If you don't care about gaming as a whole then you don't care about the positive aspects of DS or PSP or any other system. To pick and choose is a little shallow when we all stand to benefit.

I am guilty of once doubting MS, Xbox and Xbox Live because of MS past products like Windows etc. But I'm man enough to fall on my sword and admit that I was wrong and Xbox Live does work (even had plenty of fun with Halo with total strangers). MS also deserve their success for their hard work online where even Sony and Nintendo have failed. As a result Xbox has raised the bar to them both and in response both Sony and Nintendo will be looking to provide better online services both for home consoles and handhelds. Conclusion, us gamers benefit as a result. Amen for competition.

It's okay to be wrong sometimes, we are only human but I'm sticking to my guns on this one. I'm looking at the bigger gaming picture not just batting for the DS for the sake of liking it. You don't have to agree but I respect your opinions all the same (just try not to upset folk). I wish you'd just do it in a constructive manner and choose you words and points carefully.

Enough for now.

yes before analogue control we were using digital pads to play 3d games.
Nintendo came up with the analogue control which sony and microsoft have copied like most things Nintendo deserve credit for.
The touchscreen is proving a success so dont be surprised if they copy that sometime too.
By the way, last time i checked this was a forum for debate and not a play school for childish remarks.

sure, psp does have these things included, but thats not really interesting. 1. i wanna listen to music i either do it on my computer at home, or with a mp3player. not a big thingimadoo, but a small one. the psp is far to big to be walking around with around the neck (as seen in pics from sony). it would probarbly give me alot of bruises on my chest since it would bump me there all the time while walking. 2. i hate watching movies on a small screen. i could go so far to watch dvdmovies on a portable dvdplayer, but not on smaller screens. plus, i dont want to hold the player while watching, i want to relax. the psp videofunction is good for one purpose though. i can bring it too school and show other ppl gametrailers or stuff like that. thats the only positive thing i can find about that.

and sure you have the touch feature on a pda, but do you have the games? do you have a good fps? or even a good platform? does the controller work good for them? i know one person that owns a pda, and the thing he uses it for is to keep track of his friends adress and to have as an alarm in the morning. nothing else.

the psp is evolution while the ds is revolution. both consoles is being sold greatly, but only one is truly new.

Time will tell if ds stays alive. You live in the uk I think, so you guys just got them but give it a few months and you will get tired of it like the usa has.
Trust me psp may not be revolutionary in gameplay interface but what console is. When you play xbox, ps2 and gamecube what do you have, a controler, a console and a tv right, well psp is the same thing and people will never get tired of the old fashion button mashing. Touching is good but only if the games are good to touch. Right now mario 64 ds and warioware touch are looking really old. The only game coming out on ds worth mentioning is metroid prime hunters.
Even japan got tired of ds and psp was out selling it every month until nintendo desided to make color version's of the unit. Mind you the sale increase is temporary and will go back to normal within a few weeks.
In the end we will see 3 units nintendo ds, the new gameboy and psp. Will people fork over 100 or more for another nintendo handheld in such a short amount of time or will they jump on a handheld that isn't competing with itself the psp.

point me to the webpage that says nintendo is making a new gameboy. i think you dreamt that one boy. they arent making a new gameboy (well, they probarbly are), and its not gonna be released this year. it will probarbly be out in japan at the earliest december 2006.

and nintendo didnt just think "woah, psp sale is growing strong, better make new colors". they had other colors from the beginning. they started with just the original gray/silver/whatever you wanna call it so they could produce more units.

How is ds a revolution when the technology it runs on is from pda's and nintendo 64.
Psp is not a revolution but has evolved the handheld market into something greater than playing watered down console games, two a and b buttons and a directional pad. Look at the ds it's a 3D graphics console and yet has no analog stick, it's gonna be hard playing metroid prime without one.
Nintendo could have made ds with gamecube graphics if they wanted, but you know why they didn't? Because they want to juice the nintendo fans out of there hard earned money, example at e3 they are going to show a new gameboy which will have gamecube graphics and have psp like features. So the guys who bought the ds for 150 now have to spend 100 or more for a new handheld within less than a year.
Sony put out the psp with all these features and power and nintendo couldn't answer back. Nintendo DS maybe new but nintendo knows compared to psp it will get old fast. Touching lasts only so long.
Since the ds came out in november up to now ds has only handfull of games, psp has 24 games in less than 2 months of realese.
Mario, kirby and pokemon are great but kids these days play more mature games then kid games.
I feel nintendo should make better games for ds but by the lack of them it shows they are busy working on the new gameboy. If a miracle don't happen for nintendo ds then when gta hit's psp you can bet anything psp's will sell out everywhere. Come may we will see if ds can hold a candle to psp.

the revolution is that it hasnt been done before. i hardly think that ppl buy pda's to play on them. with ds you have something new. the games arent something we have seen before (or they should be anyway. unfortonantly there havent been all that many games thats really a dsgame).

and no, its not hard at all to play metroid. its really really easy. trust me, the psp wouldnt last one minute with a fpsgame like metroid. you know why? it doesnt have the controller for it. ds on the other hand is the first great console for fps. metroid is a really good example of this.

following the stream lasts only so long.

and once again, nintendo never said anything about a new gameboy. thats something you dreamt.

Do you realise you just said that as a fan not a gamer. Anyone will tell you that a fps need's an analog stick or any 3d game for that matter.
