Man I totally agree with you, Google, I like them, haha. They are an amazing innovative company that really stretches and raises the bar constantly for new "internet trends" and so on. Valve, man I LOVE them, I have been using steam for the past 5+ years and been a fan of valve myself for around 9. When I first heard this rumor, I was not sure if it was true, and in recent days it is coming ever closer to my worst fear. Google and Valve combining into one entity would break down the very fabrication that PC gaming has worked so hard to establish. These games, were made to have fun, be raunchy and trashy (some of them) and really expand the borders of what gamers wanted. There were no parameters, there were no rules, it was just to please the vast variety of the gaming demographic. If Google sticks their finger into this, for all we know it could be the end of open-source and "free" gaming, games would start to have fixed boundaries, set rules and an overall not as fun setting. I am not saying that Valve is this small easy company to take over, by no means, but I am saying that Google should not mix into areas that were already fine without its intervention. When the unification of fast paced internet technology and development clash with the versatile, crude and huge user base of PC games, well it is sure to be some sort of apocalypse.

an irrational insistence on supporting the Xbox 360 controller

Irrational? Oh I think it's quite rational. It's to tie the PC and Xbox brand closer together, so that one day you won't even be able to take a dump without it having the Microsoft logo on it and it's own API.
