why after MS has released its global shipped figures does spong feel the need to rush to the Wii's defence and post a article explaining why it had probably sold more?

And why have you completely ignored the PS3 is all of this?

Oh please. How about, "Why, when Wii figures are all apparently so good did SPOnG feel the need to run the Xbox story first! It must be a conspiracy against the Wii!!"

Or maybe that was simply the timing in which information became available.

Once again, SPOnG - and 100% myself - does not love or hate any platform more less than any other. Christ-on-a-Jet Bike, how many times!!!?

Arghghghg - because right now were are trying to track down decent global PS3 sales data. I even took a break from that last night while playing Drake's on my PS3 AT HOME.

The plan, you see, is to present a solid overview of last year's sales figures.

So, for the first - but I am sure not the last - time in 2008: SPOnG IS PLATFORM AGNOSTIC.

Happy New Year

Tim

The Wii is expected to do really well in fact I wouldnt be surprised if it was no.1 selling console considering its pretty much attracting a newer crowd of non gamers or multi-console owning gamers.

With the PS3 well its emmm not even hit 10million yet around half that. But I am sure the Sony defence force will tell you its the best selling console in the world and its the PS3 that is no.1 selling machine and has the most sales *rolls eyes*

I have an XBOX 360 and a Wii. I don't think the Wii is in direct competition with either the 360 or the PS3 as I don't know of anyone that uses the thing as their main gaming console.
It's cheap, great for parties and playing with friends but when my friends go home and the party's over the Wii goes back in it's box. I do all my proper gaming on the 360.

You would think that after enough time 'In The Business' spong would understand the difference between consoles sold to Retailers and consoles sold to consumers.

Microsoft's report was stating how many consoles were sold to retailers, while VGChartz tracks consoles sold to consumers, hence the difference in counts.

That said, that indicates a 90% sell out of the 360. Certainly nothing to shirk at.

Nope this is CONSOLES SOLD to consumers, dont forget the term when sold to retailers is SHIPPED.

Microsoft SOLD that many they didnt ship that many.

Think about it, last time Microsoft consfirmed to have SOLD to consumers over 14million consoles, therefore they cant be stuck on that figure forever so its 17.7million sold to consumers.

Everyone says VGcharts are f**ked up.

But PS3 figures are not far from the truth.

wow why didnt i think of that!, oh yeah thats because i thought.

anyhoo, to the comments about wii not being in dirct competition with 360 or ps3, well thats b******s, ninty might say that MS might say that and even sony might say that , but at the end of the day all three plug in your TV (HD or not) they all have Disc based media games, they are all "Games Consoles" so although Nintendo likes to market it as a family activity centre and sony and microsoft like to call it a Toy, its a fecking games console in direct competition and its trouncing the PS3 and 360.

PS

i also own a PS3 and 360 i am mearly stating the obvious.

Do you not understand the difference between shipped and sold? The VGChartz figures are for consoles actually sold to consumers. The 17.7 million is concoles shipped to retailers, not actually sold.

OK, so how do you explain VGChartz stating that 19.5 million Wiis have been sold?

Your confused with all your facts -

MS, Sony and Nintendo can't track those sales. The only company that tracks actual sales to customers is NPD!!! That's why they exist!

Why do you think MS, Sony, and Nintendo wait till NPD numbers come out to release their pressrelease? Why would they even subscribe(and pay money) to NPD if they already have those numbers??

Because Rabid Brand Loyalty is much more prevalent on the internet than logic ;)

I'm sorry, but VGChartz should be taken more seriously than this website.

Wasn't calling you a fan boy, just didn't get the point of the article as you seamed to be guessing at figures... and it just came across as a bit defensive...
