what a coincidence.

i was just about to post a thread about sony's new campign.i saw and ad in a magazine-same style as the cover pic- saying "escape your boyfriends(nagging /questions)"" cant fully remember it,but i just remember thinkin, thats some cheap n easy advertising.didnt ken katurgui(SP)say something like we need to expand our userbase to girls?

the add i saw was a directly linked to that comment, but in such a junior boner way.twits.

This is getting ridiculous, those ads would not make me want a PSP (if I didn't already have one), it's pointless Sony concentrating on the entertainment side of the PSP, as it performs badly as a gadget, it can't do anyting that other devices can't do better.

Sony really need to concentrate on the games, Its a Playstation Portable, and a Playstation is supposed to play games, first and foremost!

I agree to a point. But I do wonder if there are more PSP owners out there right now? Having a machine that does alot is cool. I hated the X-Box having a hard drive but actually you can do alot with it. I'm sure some clever game developers are going to find a way to use all the PSPs features in innovative ways. Then Nintendo would have been taken down a rung. The only thing Nintendo has going for it is the innovative touch screen. They build games around that. The graphics are about half AT LEAST to what the PSP is pushing and graphics are all anyone is concerned about now, mostly. If the PSP can make games as innovative as Nintendo AND it plays videos and music, who wouldn't choose Sony. Or even if there were new games on it. So far Lumines, GTA: LCS, Mercury, Wipeout Fusion, and Exit are the standout originals. If there were a new Gran Turismo, Tekken, Virtua Fighter, ICO, and maybe ZOE, I think that combo of games would severely hurt Nintendo.

Don't get me wrong, I'm getting both and I love Nintendo, but all you Sony bashers will shut up when the original and good games come out.

I like Sony too, but I have to admit there line up of games for the PSP is extremely second rate comapared to Nintendo's line up of games for the DS.

I too think that a new Gran Turismo, Tekken, Virtua Fighter, ICO, and ZOE for PSP would be cool in theory, but you have to ask the question, how many people would be prepared to buy titles they may already own on PS2, it's the same story with people having to buy UMD titles they may already have on DVD, you're basically paying for the same product twice (be it film or whatever) on a different format.

Gran Turismo, Tekken, Virtua Fighter, ICO and ZOE are all games the world have seen before, Sony desperately need to have innovative PSP exclusive games, not ports of exsisting PS2 games if they are to succeed against (or even achieve similar sales to) the Nintendo DS.

I must admit that I think Sony have gone seriously wrong with the latest batch of PSP adverts.

Near where I work there's a giant banner (it covers the entire front of a building) with "Your girlfriend's white bits here."

With respect to Sony, I have no idea what that means. Plus I don't have a girlfriend. Yes, that may make me stupid for not getting it. But it also makes me think "WFT are you on about you retards" which is not going to make me buy their product.

I thourght the term "white bits" was given to the parts of your body that aren't usually tanned when you have a suntan (use your imagination!), but I don't have a girlfriend either, so I can't be entirely sure, it's just my assumption.

What about Mario Kart, Metroid, etc. There ALL established franchises. Just because it carries the same name doesn't mean it won't be fresh. Tekken is adding two new fighters and old favorites back into the mix with new modes and online play I'm sure. A port is a port. And nothing more. These new games have alot more added to them and the graphics look better in most cases. So I have no problem plunking down 30 or 40 bucks on them.

yeah, they are already established franchises but the reason the DS creates more innovation within its games is because of the new ways to play games.gameplay wise the psp does NOTHING new, and therefore isnt as innovative as the ds.

At least the adverts there are better than the ones in the 'states. Yes, I said it. the TV ads make me actively want to NOT buy, and tell sony that their product is stupid and pointless.

What are they? Here's the gist: imagine a squirrel munch on an acorn inside his tree. Second, another squirrel is eating a nut outside, and they yell back and forth about how squirrels can eat nuts outside.

The end tag? PSP. it's a nut you can eat outside.

L-A-M-E. so lame, I want heads to roll at Sony's PR deptarment, and whoever hired the ad firm to get fired. Did I want a PSP before? Not really. I have a game boy and an iPod already, so i'm all good there. But with these new ads, I've actively become hostile toward the product.

No, not St. Louis. Nashville, TN. Although the wife and I are likely to move in the next few years.

Any reason?

There was another Television ad that had some dustbunnies talking, although I can't remember the tag line. they're all basically the same. "It's ____ that you can do outside." or something similar. and it's always lame.

Did I not just post about this before??? All I'm saying when the PSP games and ports get more innovative, Nintendo will feel the hurt. Ya know gameplay is still a way to be innovative. Sony does do alot that Nintendo doesn't. Music, movie playback, memory card slot, possibly a camera option in the revision. Those could be used for a good game.

Let's put this simple.
Why is the DS ass-whooping the PSP? Simple because it's the only handheld console that actually has good INNOVATIVE HANDHELD games.
The PSP does not have HANDHELD games... it has watered down HOMECONSOLE games (with the exception of Lumines). GT or Tekken or ICO are HOMECONSOLE games, not HANDHELD games. Sure they can try to make it into a handheld game but seeing at the screens and info they're not doing that at all (mostly because they clearly don't have Nintendo's expertise of creating fun, fast and innovative HANDHELD games). Same thing with Halo and MS secret "handheld" ...if Halo is the only good thing on the bloody thing, it's doomed seeing that Halo is HOMECONSOLE game and not a HANDHELD game.

Thing is, Nintendo has gone all-out, found some way to compremise fun itself and infuse it into a cartridge in such a way everyone's wondering "why didn't anyone else think of this sooner?".
Sony thaught it could trump Nintendo out of it's handheld throne by putting HOMECONSOLE games on a freakin HANDHELD. i hope the point i'm trying to make is clear.

Sony can only beat the DS if it releases HANDHELD games, preferably EXCLUSIVE, INNOVATIVE and FUN ones, problem is, Nintendo is king in those last 2, going to be hard to beat the DS in that field.

I've heard about those "now you can take your X outside" ,i've also saw nice joke on those ads going "Sony PSP, now you can take your LOADING TIMES outside".

Explain to me how DS games such as Castlevania, Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, Metroid Prime, Warioware, Zelda (forthcoming), Mario (forthcoming), Madden Football, and Pac Man aren't "HOME CONSOLE" games. Seeing as how your only basis is that they came out on home systems a bagillion years ago therefore are not considered new or innovative when these games are usually are. Why are you knocking only the PSP games. Wipeout, GTA, and the forthcoming Tekken are all fresh and new outings, sure it's the same franchise, SO IS EVERYfuckINGTHING ELSE! Just because Nintendo is making doesn't excuse it from being a non original property.
