ahhh... even the ever trendy japanese arent buying it buy the bucket loads that sony thought they would... and they dont buy games for it... oh its soooo delicious!

and when the next box launches with an amazing line up well ahead of the ps3 (which by all estimates will most likely have a much weaker launch line up, seeing as the cell processors development and tools creation is rumored to be running behind shcedule) the mighty sony will be squirming... or so i think anyway :)

I dont see how you can say that, xbox doesnt sell well in japan either, from these sales it is under 400 units, that is poor. Compared to Sony's giant lead with ps2.
psp isnt selling bad, but i think that this article is right in assuming that the DS is selling well because of the innovation and freshness it brings to the market.
If the revolution turns out to be as exciting as DS then maybe it isnt Microsoft who should be worrying Sony.

To be blunt:

I WANT A BLACK DS.

To be less blunt, I'd be happy with any kind.

i can say that because Billy G. over at M$ head quarters has probably been daily pimp slapping whoever is in charge of xbox in japan for the past four years. They will not Ef this next one liek they did the first... and considering world wide sales of the xbox are at or better than the game cubes, when it has sold sooo many more units in japan... i dont think M$ need to worry about the English speakign nations, we all seem pretty fond of the thing... with the right launch line up (complimented but some well made games, provided xna does what its supposed too) and sevear enough marketting (oh yea, it'll be huge, halo2 anyone?) and proper third party support (considering the numebr of exclusive deals they have with some big name up and comming studios) they look set to do muuuccchh better this time...

even if sony still wins out in the land of the rising sun... i feel pretty confident that M$ pre christmas launch of the next big thing will do wonders twords giving them a strong market lead else where... this one is going to be muuch closer...

wait and see :)

I think the japanese public are voting with the yen. DS offer something new and PSP doesn't apart from media option. Like many said ages before watching films on PSP is a nice option but one many won't bother with when they already have a large DVD collection.

Perhaps to them all they see is the PS2 getting smaller in size into the PSP but it doing little that is pushing them to buy it when they already own a PS2. I still think both hand helds will do well though.

yeah it is nice to be able to play something unique. Games which utilize the DS features cannot be played on any other handheld system. This makes me want to pick up a DS because i know that i am experiencing something new and innovative.
So many games are mulit platform now, it is refreshing to get somethng exclusive that cant be experienced on another system.

I like PSX but PSP it's like a 'bad' clone to me.Wanna start over 5 years of gaming, paying for the same? Sounds fun!!...hmm?!
I cant without my ROTK series on PS2 but please give me DS instead so i can relax off of the same formula.
I'm sure DS is better in every way except graphics and PSP is bound to go down sonner or later with GBEvo closing in.=Mission: -Taking Away Every Last Penny From Nintendo Failed-

Thing is, since I've had my DS, I've found myself touching monitors and the onscreen sky tv guide with some misguided belief that that is the correct user input.

I remember Peter Molyneux saying at the last E3 that it isn't graphics that will make the newer better games, but a quality input device. A new way of interacting. Touch screens aren't particularly new, but damn they rock.
