“So, we sold you suckers a slightly broken new games console and you have the cheek to complain? What is wrong with you? Well, if you are such a baby that your broken screen is making you cry we’ll do some kind of mysterious restoration work which sounds like we’ll take your DS away for ages.”
this is absolute bs. even the high-end pc flat screen manufacturers get dead pixels every percentage of units produced. we're talking about MILLIONS of nintendo DSes produced, so dead, lit, and unlit pixels are to be expected from a tiny fraction of those units, and nintendo is even happy to replace them! so where's the beef? and it wasn't even nintendo's fault in the first place, but the lcd manufacturer (i think it was sharp, if i'm not mistaken)! i think this reporter should grow up like the one who did that jfk report. he sounds like some bitter 12 year old who has a dead pixel in his DS. MOMMMMYYYY!!!!!
I have to agree, everything with LCD screens can have a dead pixel. And the rebooting really isnt that bad, unless you can't take 3 seconds to turn a button on and off. I'm also pretty sure you can change many settings all at once then reboot. It sounds like a Sony fanboy wrote this...

The beef is with this attitude that you should play it for a while and - if you can't live with it - then talk about replacing the faulty item. FAULTY! There shouldn't be any question of "living with it", it should be stragiht back to the store and gat a replacement!
PC LCD screens suffering from dead pixels? Sure, it's bound to happen. But... I've seen dozens of 1600x1200 flat screens installed in my office recently and not one rejected cuz of dead pixels. Same with friends and their PC screens. Each of these screen has over a 1.5mil more pixels than a DS meaning that pixel failure is more likely in each unit. Going back a few years it was different but modern fabrication tech has increase yield hugely. Then there are all the LCD projectos, GBASPs, GBCs, heck even cell phones, and I don't recall any big deal about dead pixels. So where does that leave the DS screens....

Sure it's Nintendo's fault. You don't buy components, put them together and ship the product without testing!
Heck, you don't buy components without checking the build quality, yield and QA procedures at the supplier. I'd even suggest that executives at Nintendo had a guided tour of the LCD fab plant.
If Nintendo signed up with the wrong LCD manufacturer, then that their fault for not being diligent enough (or just being plain cheap). If the screens installed in the DS's fail when they get to the consumer, then that's again Nintendo's fault for not having tight enough QA procedures.

it was only a suggestion from nintendo. if you want to have a replacement or not is solely up to you.

oh, and your experiences with your office LCDs are applicable to those outside of your office? where's the logic? then again, SO WHAT if there's a dead pixel? NINTENDO ACCEPTS REPLACEMENTS. it's not as if you're stuck with the thing, just go back to wherever you bought your unit, show the dead pixel, and ask for a replacement. 1-2-3, easy. psh. and pc lcd monitor manufacturers' warranty even have REQUIREMENTS, like 'there must be a cluster of dead pixels before replacements can be made', or 'your monitor must have AT LEAST 3 dead/lit/unlit pixels for us to replace it'. nintendo DO NOT have this requirement, if you have a dead/lit/unlit pixel, we'll replace it if you want to.

irrelevant YET AGAIN. doesn't matter what QA processes nintendo puts their outsourced compontents through, "if you have a defect, we'll replace it", remember?
You got to be kidding me right? Wow, if the one little pixel story sounds like a big launch problem to you guys then im sorry to say that youre insane. I got my Nintendo DS when it released with NO problems. And everyone else i know who has it didnt have a problem as well. Plus i wouldnt call Selling out in almost every store a problem. Now, not to be rude but you guys need to get on the ball or this might be the worst video game(european) site on the net ive seen. id be more worried about that then about a silly pixel you can get fixed up for free. good luck though. please fire whoever wrote this article. ;) bye.
Not only is this a terrible and shoddy news story but where are the brand new pictures of The Legend of Zelda, Mario Baseball, DonkeyKonga 3, and Kirby's Adventure? No news story on that? Next thing i know ill be reading about "shoddy Halo 2 boxes at Bestbuy. Terrible Launch EVER!!1!" Please post something news worthy.
yeah, i know. it's like he thinks that ALL the DSes that came out have dead pixels. i mean, sure, it happens, but only a negligible fraction of all DSes have dead pixels, plus you can take it back and get one WITHOUT a dead pixel, so what's the big deal? plus, he's bitching about a THREE SECOND REBOOT, i mean, omfg is he 5 or what?
i'm really starting to loathe spong's writers ... *cough*lowresolutionpics*cough*
oh, and if you want to see HIGH RES pics of the new legend of zelda plus three other first party nintendo games, gamespot.com'll hook you up .. and there are NO articles about dead pixels on gamespot
yeah, i know. it's like he thinks that ALL the DSes that came out have dead pixels.
Dude, to me it sounds like all you Nintendo Fanboys are whining self-obsessed cry-babies. Italso seems like you don't read too well, and understand little of what you do read.
SPOnG isn't saying that ALL DSs have stuck pixels. It's saying that some do and that Nintendo's attitude to fixing them is not very good.
But you little self-obsessed dicks all have the attitiude "mine's fine, so overyone else's must be, and it it's note... I don't care".
Secondly, SPOnG is a euro-site. The DS isn't launched in Eurpe yet, and SPOnG clearly stated that it doesn't get its DS until tomorrow. So whinging about them not posting screen shots yet is just dumb.
plus you can take it back and get one WITHOUT a dead pixel, so what's the big deal?
Well, for you the glass is always half full, isn't it? THat's not what Nintendo said. They said, try your best to live with the dead pixel, and if you absolutely can't then we MIGHT replace it. THing is, very many manufacturers of LCD screens test them before releasing them, and don't pass the ones with dead or stuck pixels.
he's bitching about a THREE SECOND REBOOT, i mean, omfg is he 5 or what?
Well, I can imagine you have a load of three seconds to spare. Some of us got lives and don't want to be waiting around for our consoles to re-boot. It's not a PC... and even it it were a PC, on my desk it'd be running Linux, and wouldn't have to re-boot. So all you Wind0ze l00sers, live with it if you want.
i'm really starting to loathe spong's writers ... *cough*lowresolutionpics*cough*
Well, why don't you go somewhere else then. I'm sure they can face life without your senseless whining.
The Nintendo DS screen is 256 x 192 x 2 So any screens you see at wider than 256 pixels are not "high res" they are interpolated Photoshoppically.
if we're nintendo fanboys, you're a sony executive dick-sucker. which one's worse? if you don't see anything wrong with this spong article, then you're special .. you get my drift? my god, even a visually-impaired monkey woudl be able to see the BIAS contained in that article ..

"SPOnG is a euro-site. The DS isn't launched in Eurpe yet, and SPOnG clearly stated that it doesn't get its DS until tomorrow. So whinging about themblablablablabla"
if they haven't gotten their DSes, then WHY IN THE HELL DID THEY EVEN PUBLISH EXPERIENCES OTHER THAN THEIR OWN?!?!?

i didn't buy my DS just to configure it for hours on end. i get it out of it's box, configure it a few times to my liking, and then move on. what's a few minutes to make sure all the settings cater to my liking?

"The Nintendo DS screen is 256 x 192 x 2 So any screens you see at wider than 256 pixels are not "high res" they are interpolated Photoshoppically."
i was referring to the images usually linked to the articles, not the DS, genius. even someone as biased like you would have to agree on that one

"Well, why don't you go somewhere else then. I'm sure they can face life without your senseless whining."
actually, i frequent the gamespot.com forums regularly (and have a premium 'complete' subscription at that), becuase you can really have an intellectual conversation there, instead of debating with mindless trolls like you .. and gamespot would never EVER post an article as biased as this one
"Hmmm. Let me see. You are saying that a visually-impaired monkey could see bias in that article? And that you COULD see bias, and I couldn't? Sounds about right!"
yep. actually, everyone in this thread can see it, except you .. hmm .. isn't that odd? maybe you chose to blind yourself from it? why?
oh, and a visually impaired monkey can understand the concept of bias ..
and you couldn't?
sounds about right!
-=-=-
"Gamespot and you are made for one another."
thank you very much. that's a very kind compliment. you and spong are like two pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, in all it's biased glory
