I sort of agree with Reg, although he seems to be dismissing cheap games as not possibly being AAA. Surely a AAA rating is about overall quality of the product, not about how much was spent on development or how much it retails for.
The issue isn't that consumers think high dev cost games should also cost $2. A high dev cost game could sell for $2 if they were certain that they could get enough sales to make a healthy profit.
Maybe the dev industry has got it wrong. The high dev cost games should be getting made for the platforms which can sell them in high volume and easily recoup the dev costs. The "casual" lower dev cost games should be getting made for the consoles which have a lower user base and get lower sales figures. That way all games can sell for the $2 sort of price point...
