and for the spong writer to make comments about experiences other than his own, and without thorough investigation, is, well, very unprofessional, and extremely monkey-like (no disrespect to monkeys reading this).
Dude. Couple things.
Writing about experiences other than their own is what most writers do most of the time. So it almost defines the term professional with respect to writing.

Also, you're pretty monkey-obsessed.
well, real journlalists publish neutral stories and keep their opinions to themselves .. and monkeys are a lower form of humans in the evolutionary chain .. would you perhaps prefer gorrillas .. or maybe chimps?
The suggestion I made was for you to imagine that everything was exactly the same, except for the names of the company and the product. Therefore, there is no null or void about it. In our hypothetical situation, Sony has exactly the same level of tolerance regarding dead pixels as Nintendo does now.
Try again, Sony said exactly what was quoted, except they changed the names. How do you feel? How will you respond?
i'd still be pissed at that spong writer for publishing those idiotic comments. proceed with the head-bashing.
well, real journlalists publish neutral stories and keep their opinions to themselves ..
Ah, I see. The reason you think SPONG's journalists are unprofessional is that you have NO idea what real journalism is.
Nowhere does it state that journalist should be impartial. And nowhere are they impartial. Most journalists are pushing the agenda of their publishers. Just watch Fox news if you doubt that... all you get is right wing drivel. They refer to Iraqi insurgents (look it up) as terrorists.
All these people are doing is resisting an illegal invasion of their country. When the French did that in World War 2, they were called "The Resistance" and made heroes. When Osama Bin Laden did that on behalf of the CIA in Afghanistan, he was called a freedom fighter.
Some of the best journalism in the world has been biased. Because only when there is bias is there passion, and commitment.
If you really prefer the dire tripe they publish at Gamespot and IGN, why don't you just go back there.
But the thing is, all of this is academic. SPOnG piece wasn't even biased. They would have said the same about Sony, Microsoft, Nokia, Gizmondo or whoever. All they were saying was bad customer service is unacceptable. It's just all the Nintendo fanboys that went apeshit at that.
But if you'd been reading SPOnG for more than about 20 minutes, you'd know that they are (sometimes annoyingly) pro-Nintendo.
Try again, Sony said exactly what was quoted, except they changed the names. How do you feel? How will you respond?
i'd still be pissed at that spong writer for publishing those idiotic comments. proceed with the head-bashing.
I see. So you have avoided the question again, just to have a dig at SPOnG. You obviously have something to hide. You seem, to me at least, to be avoiding answering the question because you would treat Sony more harshly than Nintendo, and you want to try and avoid looking like a Nintendo fanboy.
Please note, there is nothing wrong with being a fan of a particular company or product. What is wrong is allowing that love and respect to lead you into a "can do no wrong" attitude. What is worse is allowing that attitude to justify flaming people for expressing opinions that criticise the object of your affection.
Try being objective for a change, take a devil's advocate position, argue for the opposition. It's quite an intelectual challenge, but it is rewarding, it allows you to build debating skills that can help you fight your own corner.
Or not, your choice, but you won't get much respect from people who can use all or most of their intelligence to argue a point if you continue to shout down and insult anybody with an opposing view. You may have noticed, not many people have leapt to your defence in this thread.
But if you'd been reading SPOnG for more than about 20 minutes, you'd know that they are (sometimes annoyingly) pro-Nintendo.
LOL. When I first started reading SPoNG I thought they were anti-Nintendo. Their style seemed to change when they got really excited about the DS.
Personally, I don't think SPoNG are bias that much at all now. They treat every product/company with a endearing mixture of praise and criticism, as well as providing some of the more unusual pieces on gaming. That's why I read this site - it's interesting to hear their views.
Ah, I see. The reason you think SPONG's journalists are unprofessional is that you have NO idea what real journalism is.
and YOU have a sense of what journalism is? if you think that "good" journalism is news anchors broadcasting publisher propaganda then you're not just biased, but absolutely bonkers. if you think 'iraqi freedom fighters' are something other than terrorists, then i don't have to elaborate further, now do i? sure, bush had a hidden agenda when he waged war with the saddam hussein's regime, but who wouldn't want the oppressed citizens of iraq to have a democratic government of their own? a government for and by the people? surely you aren't suggesting that iraq's better off with saddam at the helm? again, no further need to elaborate, let the readers judge for themselves your brain patterns.
to say that the "best journalism in the world" is laced with bias and propaganda .. you aren't pulling anyone's leg, are you?
i want the facts straight and untarnished so i can judge for myself. if you're okay with someone else thinking for you, then by all means, go ahead, like a sheep to be flocked. but if i come across "news" that is biased and UNPROFESSIONAL, then i will speak out my mind, like so many of the forum-goers here. Todd.
i see. so you've evaded my response yet again. or should i say, eluded? it is not the website spong as a whole, but this particular article where the "writer" had a little too much fun authoring. it is he with whom i have a ... "dig", with.
look. it is not just me who can see the bias contained in that article. if i am alone in my accusations, then by all means, i would 'run away!' like the monty python crew, but as you can see embedded within these 52 responses, i am not alone.
it is basically a battle of 2 factions: 1) people pissed at the bias of the article/writer
&
2) the spong team/spong fanboys who blind themselves from the fact that the article WAS biased, but defends it still, for the heck of it.
like i have repeated many, many, times during the course of this debate: nintendo would replace it free of charge if the owner deems the troublesome pixel too distracting for common use, AS COVERED BY THE ONE-YEAR WARRANTY, which the article ITSELF had mentioned.
understand?
it matters not wether company X is releasing product Y, it is the _POLICY_ that you have to focus upon, which is stated in the above paragraph, but i would copy/paste it for you just to make sure you didn't skip over it or anything:
nintendo would replace it free of charge if the owner deems the troublesome pixel too distracting for common use, AS COVERED BY THE ONE-YEAR WARRANTY, which the article ITSELF had mentioned.
oh, and i couldn't give a rat's ass if people came to my defense or not. i am not a coward who would retreat for being ganged up on by a mob of spong fanatics.

I haven't either evaded or eluded your point, you have made it well known you are unhappy with what you see as bias in the news story. You have made your point, it is your opinion, I see no way of changing that, so I'm not even trying. What I was attempting to find out, was if your accusations of bias come from you having an overly positive view of everything Nintendo do, or if you had a genuine concern over the bias in the story. I attemped to find this out by posing a hypothetical question. You refused to answer this question, so I tried re-wording it and again you refused to answer. I have to conclude you are unwilling to answer this question, for reasons of your own, I will therefor not attempt to ask it again.
As to the writer, this story was written by one of SPOnG's most long-lived, die-hard Nintendo fans. I can tell he is annoyed by the attitude that Nintendo seem to be displaying in the "We suggest that you use your system for a few weeks" comment. This does seem to be saying "don't bother us unless it's really necessary", which is a horrible attitude to take.

So if posters disagree with you, their opinions don't count? This is not a very mature way to deal with other opinions. You really are going to have to get used to the idea that not everybody will agree with you, not everybody will be pursuaded to change their opinion by you, and that some people will hold their opinions as fiercely as you hold yours. One of the arts of debate and argument is the ability to realise you have reached an impasse and agree to disagree.

You have repeated this point often, nobody has disagreed with you, nobody has tried to claim that Nintendo won't replace your DS if you are unhappy with it. The point that people have been trying to make is that the attitude expressed in the "We suggest that you use your system for a few weeks" comment is not putting Nintendo in a good light.
I can see this discussion decending into an endless cycle of the two of us repeating our points, so I am willing to agree to disagree and acknowledge the facts that, you see bias in the story, you don't think that bias has any business being in the story and that you believe that Nintendo will replace any DS impared by a stuck or dead pixel. I'm sorry I wasn't able to persuade you to at least see my point of view as being valid, but I don't seem to posess the words to influence your thinking on this matter.
On a lighter note, do you have a DS? Have you found it to be enjoyable to play? What are the games like? We Europeans still have ages to wait for the DS to arrive in the shops and are impatient for news and views, please tell us what you think.
if you think that "good" journalism is news anchors broadcasting publisher propaganda then you're not just biased, but absolutely bonkers.
Dude, I'm beginning to think that you are actually insane. Your responses have nothing to do with the points made in the postings to which you are responding. You are like a talking non-sequiteur.
I didn't say that biased journalism was good journalism, I said that all journalism was biased. SOme journalism is good. But you probably think all animals are monkeys, yeah?
if you think 'iraqi freedom fighters' are something other than terrorists, then i don't have to elaborate further, now do i? sure, bush had a hidden agenda when he waged war with the saddam hussein's regime, but who wouldn't want the oppressed citizens of iraq to have a democratic government of their own?
And what about the people of Chile, who had a democratic government of their own, but America didn't like it, so they organised a coup.
And what about the people of Indonesia?
aren't suggesting that iraq's better off with saddam at the helm? again, no further need to elaborate, let the readers judge for themselves your brain patterns.
Again, you are showing that you aren't a regular in these parts. Of course opinions are divided, but most people here think America just waged an illegal war. Most people here think that Saddam should have been ousted by the will of the International community. Not America acting like John Wayne.
to say that the "best journalism in the world" is laced with bias and propaganda .. you aren't pulling anyone's leg, are you?
I would have been, if I had said that. It's interesting how much bias and propoganda you use in making your own points.
i want the facts straight and untarnished so i can judge for myself. if you're okay with someone else thinking for you, then by all means, go ahead, like a sheep to be flocked.
like a sheep to be flocked. WTF?
But, none of the news you read or watch on TV is objective. If you think it is you're a gullible fool.
but if i come across "news" that is biased and UNPROFESSIONAL, then i will speak out my mind, like so many of the forum-goers here. Todd.
There's only really been you and ozfunghi who have been pushing the "unprofessional" thing, and I think most people here think you're a f**king idiot.
In fact, since you love "democracy" so much. Let's have a vote... who here - people who have ALREADY posted in this thread only please:

On the merit of that statement, I've found my arm shooting up in agreement. Sign me up.
