I would like to express my disappointment with the decision on the 2nd of May to sell Gamestation to Game. Personally, I spent a long time deciding what I wanted to do with my life, but during this time I discovered video games. When it came to a time to seek employment, I looked at my options and realised that I would like to work in this field. I was fortunate to have experienced the first Gamestation store as a customer and proceeded to try and get and get a job with them. They were unique in their approach to this new market and also seemed to be in touch with their customers. It took a few attempts, applying for different roles, but eventually I was successful. Now, everything has changed. My job is no longer secure and now we have to follow our new owners. This is the worst thing that could happen to specialist games retail and will be a sad day for all involved.
SPOnG would like to formalise some form of debate between employees of both companies, which we would then publish. Obviously we need to be sure of credentials, however, if you are involved with either operation, please get in touch at feedback@spong.com or directly to the Forum. We can then see how best to proceed.
if gamestation is so much better than GAME, how come blockbuster could not wait to offload you? game station has been up for sale for ages, but no one wanted to buy a failing business!!! GAME has always been the better of the two, and always will be!
OMG! THE REAL REASON why Blockbuster sold Gamestation is to save their own failing business. Everyone knows the rental industry is in trouble with DVDs going on sale at the same as rental. Blocky has been losing money big time and gamestation was the company keeping them in the game. They had to sell gamestation to cover their own loses.
Now with the money Blockys can attempt to recover (has any noticed a local Blocky close down near you?)
GAME bought gamestation purely cause its a major threat to their business. Gamestation is not a failing brand....far from it actually...and as proof, our branch at birmingham new street got the MCV star store award...so we must be doing somthing right eh?
Jeff is your ignorance a behaviour of all GAME employees?......Discuss

Sora new street may have won the mcv star award, but who was specialist retailer of the year...............GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!
game station - 1 branch wins an award GAME - the BRAND wins an award!

Gamestation won last year. GAME won the year before. This is voted for by publishers and the industry, not consumers, it's an indication of what the industry thinks of you.
GAME versus Gamestation - No one wins. Depends on the town and the staff. In some towns, GS staff are brilliant, in others they aren't. And vice-versa. There are crap GAME stores and crap Gamestation stores.
The two brands will be treated seperately - instead of allowing in other competitors, ie Gamestop, GAME have seen sense and cornered two sides of the market - Gamestation generally attracts 'hardcore' gamers with it's look and feel, GAME is more geared towards mum and family, and is also pre-dominantly on high streets, whereas GS is usually a bit to the side. That's not a given, but a generalisation on brand positioning.
At the end of the day, if you play games and work for a specialist retailer, whats the big moan? And for the record, GAME would not have bought Gamestation if it wasn't a profit making business. What's the point of buying a s**t business that loses money? Think about it.
Go figure dudes - I'm going to play games instead of reading about everyones arguments.
a real pity, but at least we can still watch blockbuster dvd on my widescreen LCD tv. ***n00b weblink removed*** /> [25 Sep 2007, 08:39: Message edited by 'tyrion'] Get back into the mist with your guerilla marketing.
