Dude, your petulant transatlantic jabberings are really beginning lower the tone.
I am a Nintendo fanboy and, having seen the DS first hand now have to admit being a little disappointed - I preferred the original, more famicomy/Game&Watchy design, nicer plastic for the case and better buttons. The concept behind the machine is ace, pure Nintendo and I love it, but it definitely deserves to get a bit of stick for the execution.
this is absolute bs. even the high-end pc flat screen manufacturers get dead pixels every percentage of units produced.
Eazy E, I agree with the Moss, your opinions are annoying and peurile. But they are your opinions, and you are entitled to them. So if you want everyone here to think that you are a stupid, immature little w****r, feel free to keep posting.
But can you AT LEAST learn how to quote properly.
I do not frequent the GameSpot forums, but if everyone there quotes as poorly as you, I'm sure I don't want to.
In every manufacturing process there are faults. Nintendo check the quality of their products probably better than any other Manufacturer, and they will surely scrap any faulty LCD screens they find before they're packaged.
Considering the amount of DS's sold, and the amount of LCD screens anybody has inspected in their life, it isn't surprising that there a certain differances.
And if anyone complains about Nintendo's warranty service, I will personaly come to their house and stuff their Dicks in their face! Nintendo's warranty service is excellent. And they are clearly saying, that if you want it replacing, they will replace it, no ifs and buts like by any other Manufacturer.
Anybody critisizing Nintendo's standpoint here is just plain naive.
And if anyone were to look through their User Manuals, they would notice the exact same lines for the GBA SP about dust specs stuck in the screen cover.
where are the brand new pictures of The Legend of Zelda, Mario Baseball, DonkeyKonga 3, and Kirby's Adventure? No news story on that?
SPOnG doesn't typically consider new screenshots to be worthy of headline space. In this case we'll concede on the Zelda & Mario shots (see today's news) because of the anticipation for the titles. Otherwise, you can see our new asset additions just a little down the home page.
oh, and if you want to see HIGH RES pics of the new legend of zelda plus three other first party nintendo games, gamespot.com'll hook you up ..
You did click on the thumbnails, right?
SPOnG screens are available at a maximum of 640x640, which is plenty for most console games given that the game (and TVs) have a lower res than this (HDTV excepted). This is all irrelevant for DS's bijou 256x190 screens (256x380 stitched).
You want them at natural res? Let's see your green.
and there are NO articles about dead pixels on gamespot
Gamespot seems to not care/have its head in the sand on this. Big deal. Plenty of other sites have deemed it news-worthy, including the "mighty" IGN. Maybe GS will sit back a week, then pick over it in the Rumour Control.
You know, your incessant Gamespot willy waving might make people think you're one of Gamespot's bitches.

Okay, so here's a thing. If all the DS screens were okay when packaged, and they weren't when they were unpacked and played, how can Nintendo claim that the systems won't develop any further dead pixels?
Two options; 1. Pixels were dead right through QA 2. Pixel death occurs over time
Nintendo's warranty service is excellent. And they are clearly saying, that if you want it replacing, they will replace it, no ifs and buts like by any other Manufacturer.
They're not clear though. They're saying that you should stick the problem for a few weeks, when they should have said "just return them right away and we'll be happy to place" them
And if anyone were to look through their User Manuals, they would notice the exact same lines for the GBA SP about dust specs stuck in the screen cover.
Specs of dust does not equal dead pixels. Plus, dust accumulates over time, particularly after hours of pocket storage. This isn't the case with dead pixels.
You guys have clearly no experience whatsoever with LCD/TFT screens; that's all i can say. Everybody that works just even occasionally with laptops knows what i am talking about. I have a 2500 dollar laptop, it has a dead pixel and always has had it. This DOES NOT get replaced under warranty unless you have an "x amount" of dead pixels within a certain radius. This is with 95% of all laptop manufacturers, in fact i am yet to find one that has a different policy. So quit whining and be gratefull they just replace them if you want to.
My dead pixel on my laptop is located on the bottom pixel row of my screen, the very last row of pixels, so it blends perfectly in my taskbar. This is why Nintendo says "if it bothers you too much"... because i'm sure they would rather help people with a dead pixel in the middle of the screen first than those who have one at the very border that is hardly noticeable. Especially since it's been reported a while ago that the screen manufacturer (sharp i think) would not be able to keep up the pace under normal circumstances.
Of all the laptops i have worked with and know others have worked with, over HALF of them had dead pixel(s), so stop pretending like Nintendo is ripping you off and is T3h EeE^iLz. A lot of those laptops were far from cheap, IBM, Toshiba, Compaq... and i'm not talking entry models. Be glad they fix it if you want to.

Wow, you're actually on the spong team? I sure hope you guys do this for fun and don't get any money out of this site because that has to be the most unprofessional attitude i've come across since i started visiting news sites a long LONG time ago. Makes me feel that way about you actually. I mean, it's kind of juvenile. But hey, whatever rocks your boat.
Good people, surely there's no need to blow a fuse, there will always be some returns regardless of what product is being sold. If Nintendo are gonna replace faulty DSs with dead pixels then why stress?
Even Xbox and Ps2 had issues when they first came out but now everything is smooth sailing since the problems were addressed. At least this DS hurdle can be dealt with swiftly. If mine is faulty come March, I'll be straight back to where I bought it from.
All you people have to do is make sure you keep you receipt for your DS safe somewhere, just in case. Most people usually do this with new stuff they buy anyway. Well, I do anyway.

Jeez, it's the day of the cry babies. The guy was being a dick, and DoctorDee called him. There's nothing wrong with that.
He was arguing a bad point, name calling, ignoring the points of others, mnisunderstanding or misinterpretting the points he did not ignore. he got what he deserved.

You are absolutely correct. None of us have ever even seen an LCD display.
Except for the 20" LCD monitors that the SPOnG team use.
Oh, and I'm writing this right now from a 23" Apple Cinema display.
Plus, most of us have laptops. But apart from that, we have never even been in the same room as an LCD display.
Oh, hold on...some of us have PDA's. But apart from that, you are right, we clearly have no experience with LCD displays.
Oh, except for our GBAs, Lynx's and our GameGears, and... no, in fact... on reflection, I'd have to say you were wrong...

Depends entirely on the manufacturer. Our 20" LCDS all had a zero dead pixel warranty. The manufacturer guaranteed none, and would replace them if there was one, or if one developed within one year.
My Apple Cinema display doesn't have any dead pixels, but if it had, it would have been straight back in the box and back to Apple.
And if I'd spent two and a half grand on a lap-top, I would have expected the same deal.

Maybe in the USA...

There is no reason why anyone should have to tolerate a dead pixel on a screen so small. Clearly, unless ALL machines have got them, then you have been sold something sub-standard when compared to what others have bought.
You might be happy to put up with it, and that's fine. Many other people would not be.
But you are correct, dead-pixel warranties vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, and from product to product. Many have a threshold (say 8/10 pixels) obove which they will replace.
Everyone knows that the cost of LCD screens increases disproportionately with size because it is difficult to produce larger displays with no dead pixels... yield drops.
But the DS screens are not large... it is entirely reasonable to expect them not to have dead or stuck pixels.
that's because instead of wasting time trying to format my quotes i get straight to the point. for those of you who have nothing to add to this thread except criticize negligible issues such as text formatting, then you probably don't have anything quite relevant to add, no?
and doctor dee, what kind of doctor are you--some kind of asshole surgeon, or maybe an anal pubic hair barber?
If your DS is faulty, send it back to Nintendo and they will fix it. End of story.
From what I've heard from people with US machines, they've only had to reboot when they first changed the settings (haven't had occasion to do so since) and didn't find it a problem.
that's because instead of wasting time trying to format my quotes i get straight to the point.
But no-one can decypher your point because it is munged with that of the person you are responding to.
Plus the quote system is so simple that I would have thought that even a visually-impaired monkey could use it. Apparently not.
for those of you who have nothing to add to this thread except criticize negligible issues such as text formatting, then you probably don't have anything quite relevant to add, no?
The irony in this is apparent to all.
and doctor dee, what kind of doctor are you--some kind of asshole surgeon, or maybe an anal pubic hair barber?
Anal pubic hair?
Do you actively try and make yourself sound stupid, or is it something you just can't help? Pubic hair exists on and around the pubis. I am sure you will one day discover this.
