well its like the ps2 it is cheaper than getting a stand alone player when the ps2 lurnch in japan 95% of units sold also got a dvd not a game

The porn factor has yet to really settle in but i still think it will be a major issue when things really get heated.

I have the hd-dvd drive but I'm not foolish enough to assume it will win. Much as i dislike sony's format pushing it does seem likr the ps3 factor will certainly help them turn the tides in their favor eventually. In spite of the negative press the machine has recieved. Personaly i really think the advertising, more than anything, will actually win peopel over. Most average consumers dotn know much about th edifferences between them and will just go for whatever they assuem to be the best. Its odd that neither side is really doign much to push the formats other than tacking it on at the end of comercials for dvd releases.

There's one factor I've heard mentioned of, on DVD/film sites, the release schedule for HD-DVD has been pretty quiet in January, so the sales have been lower than previous months; it seems most big titles on HD-DVD are already out, with Blu-ray playing catch-up.

It's factors like these that aren't pushed out, alongside such press releases, when someone (oooh, I wonder who?) is trying to big up their new tech...

Even if that's true, it's the fault of those with HD-DVD interests for dropping the ball. Compare the figures again in a few months time and I bet you Blu-Ray is still leading.

Blu-Ray will win the format race because the PS3 is a trojan horse for it. If I've said it once..

Going back to your average joe consumer again I think there is a huge market for non downloaded porn. Perhaps its unfair as i walk past like 15 sex shops on my way to work everyday, good old midtown manhattan, but id still bet most average middle aged males preffer to have there porn on disk and tucked away from view of the misses. or for those who partake in adult entertainment with there significant others, i dont know that they all have pcs in their bedrooms. It's difficult to look outside the tech bubble most of us occupy but the fact remains that it was only in the last year or two that americans broke the 50% dvd install point. I must have 10 different devices in my house that can play dvds, yet a large chunk of the country is still buying vhs.

Perhaps the people buying porn on disc arent worth talking to, but they are still consumers, and theres probably more of them than there are of us.

You're right, there probably not consumers - they're probably 12 year olds - but don't let anybody tell you porn is going to make or break a console when you can get it for free online.

I'm not sur eif your aware but the porn industry (as in all the peopel involved in it that make MONEY) is worth trillions. By the end of this year just the mobile stuff (i.e. for cell phones) is supposed to be movign around 2.7 billion.

Again, yes everyoen on here knows what a torrent is. But we are the minorities. If it was so easy and commonly available the record and film and game industries woudl have crumbled years ago.

On the subject of porn and consoles...did you know that several porn sites have adjusted their websites for WiiOpera use and that you receive extra "certain" Wiimote functionality when you are on their website...

Does this means the console war is over and the Wii just won? I do agree that porn is a big factor for a format to succeed if the porn is on the format voluntarily and not forced as on the UMD.

Totally simplistic thinking. If it were the case that your average p0rn buyer was going out to Comet (or Walmart, or wherever) to say "hmm, I really need to make a deposit at the spank bank but there are only two possible ways I can do this - the PS3 or Xbox 360!" then you'd be right.

But let's all be honest about this - every guy knows where to find it on the internet and nearly everyone has a PC.

Even if you had a console which didn't play the odd filthy disc, you're not going to run down to buy the other console, you're just going to go upstairs and choke Jabba.
