Ain't it the truth. I got mine imported from Japan nearly 3 months ago for £153 including delivery... so £30 cheaper and 7 months in advance... God bless the strength of the mighty Sterling!

My crystal ball says Sony will lose sales over this.

£180? Local taxes my arse. £50 extra does not account for V.A.T. What else have they "added" on top?

If this was released for £129 it would certainly threaten the DS, but at this announced price point, Nintendo won't bother to lower their price either.

Looks like I'll be waiting until both of these consoles have a lot more titles than their poor launch line-up to tempt me from older technology.

It's not just too expensive, it's too late as well. People are already tired of waiting for it, since they've been hearing May announcements for places like Korea and Singapore, and for us to get a September launch is like the ultimate middle-finger from Sony.

$250 = A pre-tax PSP in North America.

+ 2% EU Import tax
+ 17.5% VAT

The final total is...

$298.75

At today's exchange rates, that's £156.29 - enough for a full reduction of £20 in the price whilst taking a small extra margin over the US price. Moreover, we're waiting almost nine months from the original launch, and just over four from the US launch.

If that's not Rip-Off Britain...

I'm not impressed with the way in which either company has handled this generation of handheld launches. Fsck 'em both.

The games are region-free, but the UMD movies aren't. But since it's easy to rip your current DVDs to memory card, I don't see it as an issue.

That's so true and it's this 180 quid price that could seal Sony's handheld fate. On top of that they hate to lower their product prices.

A PSP for this much isn't worth it. When I do purchase one though I'll have to import it because some of us don't have the bread for this kind of thing. And with new consoles on the way soon (moreso Xbox360 in November) Sony must be a little worried surely.

Well I'm gonna definitely opt for DS first now. I still find it a little insulting how Sony took so long announcing this news when we could have had it officially months back. Had they done this and many people would have mustered the cash to support PSP by now.

Yeah, I'm going for the DS when (if) I have some spare cash.

Nintendo's site shows that the RPG Another is due out this June. Been waiting for this game.

I seem to recall everyone saying the PS2 was way too expensive when it came out...Didn't stop it becoming a huge seller.

You arent alone there Adam. Another Code is out June 24th in the uk so we are the first to get it in English. It does look special.

I also think Phoenix Wright (AKA Gyakuten Saiban) is due in the u.s in June.

Also look out for Riviera: The Promised Land on GBA in the same month stateside.

Good games starting to appear at last.

I feel bad for you guys. Thats alot of money to shell out for a handheld PS2. I live in the states, and I havnt gotten one because of the price (currently $250), I do plan on importing one though, because it will save me nearly $100. But what hurts you guys the most is the wait... your having to wait an additional 9 months.... by that time Xbox 360 will be out, Nintendo DS will have its killer first party titles out, and nobody will care about the PSP.
