This is rather sad since the Gamecube version sold the most copies at 500,000. But I think Capcom are using the ratio game here, using "Capcom-like" logic.
The same logic that thought, "Hey, Viewtiful Joe sold 300K on the Gamecube...it'll sell MILLIONS on the PS2!"
Well crud, that's the end of me playing that then.
I will not own a PS2. No, never again. Nothing, not even my favourite beat-em-up, can change that. Shame, as the PS2 version of SCII is still the weakest.
I really hate this kind of exclusivity elitism, it's as though Sony are flexing muscles to keep the best series on PS2.
I can understand it when a developer decides to use a format for technical advantages of that system (like Capcom and RE4 perhaps) but this is hardly the case with Soul Calibur series and PS2.
Why is it such a bad thing to have a good beat em up that's multiformat? There isn't a bad thing about it and this kind of thing makes me sick when it happens.
In many respects it's such loyalty to Sony that has 90% of beat em ups on PS2 in the first place (yes i know because of the PS2s success too). Sony know that GC and Xbox need such games and starve those formats.
As to why the PS2 version sold less than the GC version I'd say that it's because many GC owners desperately need a beat em up or two to grace GC. We got SC2 and the sales show we are happy with it and now it's been snatched from us, even when Sony still have the Tekken series exclusively on PS2 already. The inclusion of Link may have also been a reason for high GC sales of SC2.
Stop kissing Sony's arse, Namco. If the likes of the lesser fun Mortal Kombat series can make it multi format, you have no excuses as to why this is happening again after the brilliant SC2.
I am deeply, deeply disappointed. I bought SCII on GameCube and it was just fantastic. As a bonus, Link was in it. The GC version sold the most. And I don't have a PS2.
So what happens with SCIII? It goes exclusively to PS2. I can't believe it. I feel for Xbox owners who don't own PS2s as well because they'll be missing out on the fun.
SCIII is already looking absolutely fantastic, with official art and shots of 3 new characters who all look awesome. It's a sad story that Xbox and GameCube owners cannot get the chance to play Namco's killer fighter. Namco have been so buddy-buddy with Nintendo lately that it's hard to believe SCIII won't make it to GC. I wonder what Nintendo think about this, what with the GC version selling the most and then Namco deciding to release it on PS2 only.
Ah, look at us all. So many pissed off gamers. See what you've done, Namco?
Both of these games share single-format exclusivity (in spite of popularity of previous versions elsewhere), somewhat pervy outfits for the female characters and the name Soul Calibur. If you didn't know better, could you tell which one was number 3?
I think it's terrifying a dead console could turn out a better version than the one on it's supposed superior.
Has to be said, the 3 new characters look like they don't fit at all. They look like Final Fantasy offcuts. It may be a good thing it's PS2 exclusive; if that's the quality of the game, we're probably better off without.
You can tell by the screens of the "Playstationalization" of the game."oh yes, yes, why not make it look a bit like Tekken and final fantasy"as for the quality of the images well they say a 1000 words :) . SC would be much better on GC or XBX.this game screams for FSAA.

which was wrong as viewtiful joe didn't sell at all well on ps2

Those screens do look similar in quality. But the final version of SC 3 should look much better than that. Have you played Tekken 5?! I'm not even a fan of Tekken, but the graphics are really impressive. MUCH better than Soul Calibur 2's. If Namco makes SC 3 look as good as Tekken 5 it will look considerably better than Soul Calibur 1 and 2.
I think this game should be released on next-gen consoles, not current-gen ones.
