Rememeber though, that Sega did have it's considerable archade income as well as the console sales.

valid point, i always forget about the arcade segment... unfortunatly it was around that time that the rest of the world started to forget about arcades as well... after the glory days of street fighter2 (insert exciting tag line here) and mortal kombat started to fade arcades have never really recovered. I know they are still big in japan but that is due mainly to their unbelievable love of bemani style games. I currently live in northern NJ (just outside NYC) which is the mall/diner capital of the world and i dont know of any arcades in any of the nearly 10 malls i have been to around me.

In the end, the Dreamcast wasn't popular enough.

ironicly enough its popularity was low only in japan... it was very well recieved in the US... i worked at a toys'r'us (sad days indeed) just before the ps2 came out and i got to watch as they droped the dc price to 50 bucks... i could not believe how excited people where that it was so cheap and none of them could understand why it was dieing because it was so popular. i feel sega could have stuck it out in the states for a while if they stoped worying about japan... M$ has lived without japaneese support (yes i know they have nearly unlimited funding but i dont think that is the only reason)... its a big market but its not a requirment and its not as big as the US anyway. factor in Europe and Australia and there is more than enough money to be made.

It's sad Lupos has no love for Gran Turismo, Twisted Metal, Warhawk, Wipeout (well technially Pysgnosis but Sony owns them now so it counts), Jak and Daxter, ICO, etc... Sony has produced lots of many great games, not so many before the PS1, Solstice maybe, but not much. So Sony entering the console fray was a GOOD thing. So many good things came of it. Remember you're the one that believes that X-Box is good for competition because it forces other companies to try harder to beat each other, so don't say Sony shouldn't have entered the console wars. And who cares if Dreamcast went kaput, there still making games right? If Nintendo went down, sure I'd be sad, but as long as their making games, I don't care what system there on, unless it's made by Bill Gates. :o)

i have plenty of love for those some of those games but the fact remians that those games exist because of game designers not becaus eof game publishers... if they didnt work for sony they would have just worked for someone else. if there was no sony then some of those games woudl have been on the saturn and some on the n64 and there woudl have been an interestign and more evenly faught system war... but sony threw the whoel thing off entirely. Infact if there was not playstation there might be alot less gamers in the world today... but is that really a bad thing? id gladly give up some of the popularity of games inorder to recapture more of the lost spirit of it all.

see there is the difference in this argument... i care about games as an artform and a way of life... thats why i dont like sony... you dont like m$ cause everybody hates m$ and thats just the thing to do... its a big ugly bandwagon that only exists because Bill gates is such a visible figure head... do you even know the name of the head of sony? could you pick him out of a line up? or do they all look the same?(cheap shot i know) yea yea yea... billy boy is evil... big woop so is almost every head of ever corporation in the world... its a prerequisit of the job... its hard to run a company if you arent a hard ass. The only time nice guys own large corporatiosn is if they found them on a good idea, like ben an jerry's ice cream(ben cohen founded true majority... a liberal organization website that spends it time tryign to stop the bush administration)... but of course the nice guys sold it too some large food manufacturing company like Kraft or something and now it is run be evil people. its just the way of things... if M$ keeps sony from monopolyzing then they are a good thing, and when the tables turn i will be just as glad that sony is there... i hope they both keep batleing it out for the next 50 years so i dont have to worry about either one over takign the other... sadly my pessimistic side thinks alll corporations will eventually be bought out by one and the world will be left without options all together. but im rambeling so i will stop...

let up on your fanboyism and see the big picture... its an ugly one but it needs to be looked at.

You hate EA now right? (as does just about every other respectable gamer) Do you know the head of that evil corporation? Doubtful.

I still don't know why you hate Sony, you said competition is good, and Microsoft promotes competition by being in the market, not by their business practices or idealologies. So Sony serves the same purpose as Microsoft. We all know Nintendo may very well right themselves off as the next Sega if they don't change their ways. So if you say Sony shouldn't be involved, the Microsoft runs the show, and that's not good for anyone.

If you were rich, you'd be rebuplican too. Why support something if it doesn't benefit yourself. Not to hop topics like I often do.

I feel now after all these heart to heart talks with you guys is that, I'm not gonna f**kin' talk about consoles anymore. Everyone of those companies sucks in some way. So if you don't bitch, I wont. But someone'll probably take a low blow to Sony and the gloves will come off again.

Now I didn't say that! I said people do things in the best interest of themselves. We're a selfish nation, it's true.

That'll be greed then. And judging by Bush successfully gaining a 2nd term, that dream is stronger than ever.

Fiddlesticks, I've gone all Michael Moore. Anyone got any Arsenic?
