GTA 4 Gripes

So what has happened to you in GTA 4 that really pissed you off...errr, made you angry...

The first thing that comes to mind is best told in anecdotal form:

So I'm cruising around and I spy a Banshee (Viper looking roadster) in Gulf Oil livery...now I may think the colours are fugly (light blue and orange, yecch!), but the history made the car irresistably sexy looking to me...so I jack it, and park it at my safehouse for a special day.

All well and good.

Later on, my internet dating forays begin to pay dividends and I've secured a first date with SoBoEhOe (or whatever, her name is Carmen), in her profile she hints strongly that she likes expensive everything, and fast cars may be a requirement. (I thought mebbe she'd take me racing, but no dice) So I think to myself, self, do you have just the car for this shallow bitch.

To the Batcave!

Allright, now I'm cruising around in the Gulf Oil Banshee, feeling very genetically superior, with a bit of time to kill, when who should call but Brucie, Der Ubermensch, wanting to take me on a helicopter ride, I've got plenty of time, and am looking forward to Brucie's special, so I tell him I'll be there in an hour.

Long story short, DON'T take anything you want to keep when you go to Brucie's for a joyride (Heli or Boat) It won't be there when you return. You do get a Huntley Sport after all boat rides though.

I've never seen another Banshee with that colour scheme again...f**king Brucie...

I'm also pissed I didn't get to kill Manny and his videographer...I was looking forward to that.

Dead giveaway this game wasn't made in the States: I see signs for Chemists instead of Pharmacies.

Bloody Hell, just had an Infernus dissapear on me...well not dissapear, but its gone. I needed a cop car for a mission...

losing everything you have just written cos you clicked on the wring f**king button!! S**t, here we go again.

I've notices that there car you are currently driving shows up a hell of a lot while you are driving it. It doesn't matter how rare either, even if your driving an Inferno (which you never see) while your driving it it everywhere. Its annoying me slightly.

Having to drive to missions again when you restart it. There is a cut scene before every mission so why not just restart it there? I don't see what the benefit is of having to drive all the way there again (apart from being able to go and buy armour and guns, but you could do that before restarting the mission)

People constantly wanting to go out and do s**t, f**k off! It was quite amusing to begin with, but now its boring me. The only time I do it now is when I'm low on health and I need something to eat to boost my health (and there the quickest ones).

Killing the wrong Gangsta and instantly regretting it and realizing that you don't have a resent save and you can't go back and change your mind.

Getting beaten up in the strip club for taking pictures of the strippers :) lol

There was something else... but I've forgotten

I couldn't stand her talking in the 3rd person all the time and that annoying voice. dumped!

And the whole disappearing cars thing is annoying. It happens on quite a few missions :(

remembered what the other one was!

chases where you have to follow someone for a period of time before your allowed to kill them! Really f**king annoying that they don't let you know what is happening and you've wasted about 10 clips trying to kill someone who it invincible for a until a certain point.

This has been a long standing "feature" since GTA3. Back then I couldn't decide if it was a because the PS2's memory was short and so there could only be so many vehicles at any one time, or if it was meant to be those "when you have something, you see it everywhere" type gags. I can't see that there is a memory issue with PS3 and 360...



Flag down a cab or call Roman's car service - it's way quicker than driving their yourself

I rarely bother any more. The only reason I can see it's worth doing is if you want jobs from them. I tried Lil Jake's drug running, was too slow getting to the dealer and haven't bothered since. I hardly bothered with the taxi, ambulance or fire truck missions in GTAs of past - and you got good rewards with those - free weapons and armour at your pad. Brucie got pissed at me because I hardly ever hung out with him - he's the only one I'm interested it, because I can't wait to silence the annoying juicer.

I figure Niko needs all the friends he can get...

Anywhoo, Little Jacob might be the class act of the bunch, when you get him above a certain like% you can call him and he'll roll to a nearby shaded alleyway with a carload of guns at good prices (I know the Body Armor is only $300, compare to $500 at the shops) Since I wouldn't be caught dead rolling in those hoopties LJ leaves the dope in, I always had a fast ride (XXX 900 or convertible Banshee) waiting next to the spot...jump in get the package, jump out hop in, and you're off...they can get a bit tight though.

Brucie is just hilarious...A Jewish Ubermensch on juice...

Roman is my cousin, I ain't gonna kick him to the curb...much...

Haven't spent any time with Packie yet...but I do want to tap his sister's ostensibly virgin ass before *** **** ******. Plus car bombs sound cool. Oh yeah, getting each of these bonuses is an Achievement (mebbe not Dwayne's)

Lately Carmen's special hasn't been working, dunno whats up with that, I found it incredibly useful, haven't tried Kiki's yet.

Didn't know Packie gave you cars bombs! s**t never bothered hanging out with him. I didn' phone him after a while to see what he was up to and he told me to f**k off and I hadn't hung out with him.

Haven't managed to get his sis to put out yet, she's frigid!



What are Carmen's and Kiki specials? and who the f**king is Kiki? Is she LawChick from the website?

Kiki is lawchick, shes a crusader for the little guy, sees you as downtrodden immigrant hassled by the law and can lower your heat level, never used it though.

Carmen is a nurse and can heal you.

Neither special works during missions near as I can tell...

I'm through with the mandates for a while (thank gawd)...got the Liberty City (5) Achievement and all my homies are pleased with me...prolly go on a few heli and boat rides for the hell of it though...especially if Brucie asks.

I suck at bowling (and I can't break at pool to save my life, I do what I do in real life and scratch every time, when that move only scratches sometimes and sometimes wins on the break by sinking the 8-ball, in the side no less, and my other specialty, combo shots, is hopeless), but can do a 6 dart out on darts (180, trip 7, dbl. bull x 2), drinking is rubbish, its too hard to hail a cab, easier to drive actually, which is just plain wrong (and I can't dial for Roman's car service, what a gyp, about the only time it really comes in uberhandy)

The cabaret is amusing and the comedy club is alright (could do with another act or two). Strip club is fairly uninteresting after the first time, and the one Southern accent is wearing.

Brucie just said theres some new races, but I don't know how to tell new races from repeats.

Snagged an Infernus (Lamborghni/Zonda) and some other nice cars, stashed for later...still need a Comet (Porsche) lost only one I'd seen in the wild by triggered mission.

The Turismo (Ferrari) is dead easy, I had like 4 of them, now I just steal one from the dealer near the safehouse when I need one. Right now I have a Super GT (Masarati/Ferrari), (2?) Banshee (Viper), a 900, the Corvette clone, and a red/black Cognoscenti. But I really want a big central garage, mebbe I'll fix up the old mansion...it looked promising...

We'll they are both a little pointless if they don't work during missions then.



I avoid Bruce like the plague, can you kill him? Now that would be worth while.



Where are you keeping all these cars?

I assumed that you can buy property after a while if your talking about fixing up the old mansion?

I think I'm about 50% of the way through the game, been playing for 40hrs, been trying to take my time and enjoy everything a long the way.

Less useful, yes...pointless no...the health boost I use right before or right after a mission when theres no food handy...the heat reduction...I'm sure theres applications.

Either works during free-range rampages, which is what a friend of mine assures me is the entire point of the game...but then, he would, cuz he sucks at driving and has absolutely no paitence.



Not that I'm aware of...but compared to Francis or Manny the guy is a joy to be around.






Haven't bought any property yet, don't know if you can for sure, I have 4 safehouses, each with a measely 2 cars + 1 bike capacity...tried sticking a second bike in there, but I lost a car in the process, so there must be a solid 3 vehicle limit, in addition to the space limitation.

where do you buy the hats and glasses? (be specific)

You can buy hats (Russian ones) and glasses from the Russian clothes shop on the first Island, down the road from where your first safe house was located.

Not sure if you can buy other hats and glasses on the main Island, not from the persures (? the suit place), but the other clothes shop, its at the top end of the Island.

I haven't found any other clothes shops on the third Island, but there is another strip club down by the docks on the third Island which you have to find yourself.

Finished.

(One of) the final missions is a bear, for a stupid reason. Its well nigh impossible if you've never tried it, or been warned beforehand.

Also, I don't like a trend in games where they present you with a complex moral choice, then make out like it boils down to one question, when the story quite obviously presents other influencing factors.

***SPOILER ALERT***

I didn't give a rats ass about the money, I did it to keep Peggy off my ass, make Roman happy, and (can't say with straight face) end the cycle of violence (I spared the other dude too) Plus, I knew the if/then of the sitch, Katewise...

But the game made out like it was strictly revenge vs. money (and what would Kate have said if I'd made it clear it was do the deal or kill the guy...then again knowing the house she grew up in she might just say "whack him, if thats what you think you need to do")

I'm still only 53% of the way through the game and have to get my head back into the freelancing work this weekend so its gonna be a while before I manage to finish it :)
