Well, I have to say that I didn't think they would release it after porting it to Wii. A couple of weeks ago I thought that they would probably restrict stock to encorage people to buy a Wii.

Will the GC TP get a "proper" release and will pre-orders for the game be filled?

Nintendo still lists it as being released:
http://www.nintendo-europe.com/NOE/en/GB/games/gamepage.do?ElementId=529b4318-0eba-470d-b4ec-8c5e5f14d179

However Amazon US have discontinued it:
http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-96307-Legend-Zelda-Twilight/dp/B0009UBR3A/sr=8-1/qid=1166023884/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/103-6650397-7076602?ie=UTF8&s=videogames

And Amazon UK say they aren't able to offer it:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Legend-Zelda-Twilight-Princess-GameCube/dp/B0009UBR3A/sr=8-1/qid=1166023730/ref=sr_1_1/203-3300504-9820706?ie=UTF8&s=videogames

While Play say it has "sold out":

What do you think?

i think that when they made the decision to move development of TP to the Wii, they shouldve cancelled the gamecube version.

the fact that they are still supposed to be releasing TP on GC hurt the graphics, im sure i read somewhere that someone in nintendo suggested that they use the extra power to polish it up and he said that no he wanted GC owners to get the same game (obivously minus motion control).

not a big deal at all, it still looks great and is zeldatastic. but there are so many games that seem to undersell the wii's power it hurts, and zelda is probably top of the list of those worthy of that extra attention

I think that if they done that they would have done a huge disservice to their fans, because they promised over and over TP would be on the Gamecube and delayed and delayed it. Now that the Wii has serious stock shortages, if the game was only released on Wii then many Gamecube owners who are unable to upgrade would be left without a game promised to them by Nintendo.

That's Nintendo's problem; lack of killer titles on their innovative machines. Lack of quality third party support too. The Wii line-up looks quite bare, and Nintendo need to go out of their way to address this.

youre right, it would be a disservice to those fans. but id still rather nintendo had released one, definitive version that tested its new hardware. i just wanted it to be perfect, silly i know :P

thought id add that i am one of the people (big zelda fan) who have been waiting since its announcement for Twilight Princess to come out on the gamecube (until it was announced for wii), who as-of-yet cant afford a wii. id rather have to wait for the superior experience

as for the wii's sparse release list, yeah that is a problem. i guess its hard trying to get big players to commit their most important IP franchises to the black sheep console. maybe we'll see lots of low-key classics sneak onto the wii, because of its lower developing costs. the ds could be the key to winning over support for the wii, with interconsole connectivity etc, i really hope that feature is abused within an inch of its life.

Well, my pre-order with gameplay.co.uk is still saying they'll dispatch today. The item on the main website states a release date of 15th Dec.

UPDATE: Just popped into GAME in my lunch hour and they're taking pre-orders for the GC version. So that's a "yes" then.

I have the real thing on my desk now, game is out tomorrow. Our local 'station of games' believes that supplies may be limited, however, so get it while you can...

Yeah, just done a tour of game shops and GAME have limited quantities, however at the insane price of £40.

Thanks for your help :).

Well, I am extremely pissed off the HMV. I put a pre-order for GC TP in about a month ago, and today, on the release date, the status changed to "item to be ordered from supplier". Well, the whole point of putting a pre-order in is so that they will have already ordered it from the supplier so the customer gets it on the release date.

Spent just under £2 on phone calls to their "customer service department", with no answer.

Extremely unhappy with HMV, have cancelled the order and will have to go to GAME and purchase it at the stupid price.

Take this as a warning for anyone thinking of pre-ordering through HMV.

Hmm, the status of my pre-order with Gameplay.co.uk has changed to 'Backordered', with a new estimated dispacth date of 22nd Dec - which is unlikely to get to me by xmas day.

Think I'll pop to GAME too, and see if they have any on the shelves.

Yesterday, I found out the GAMEs here have 22 copies of Zelda for GC at £39.99, the local Gamestation has 18 copies at £37.99. ePlay/Gamesexchange also had an unspecified number of stock at £39.99.

I'm going to pop down a bit later.

EDIT:

Incidently, Gameplay's site lists Gamecube TP as "In Stock" (if you add it to your basket)...

GAME had quite a few in stock, so snaffled one up; sod the extra fiver. Since I pre-ordered about a month ago, Gameplay.co.uk really have no excuse.

US UPDATE:

Friend went to a local EB in NYC here, said they had about 70 in stock but preorders for about 120. Unproduced, they say. Seems a bit mixed but at least they are sayign they are expecting more shipments. Can't help but feel this is kind of intentional on Nintendos part to spur Wii sales. Though it did seem odd so few people had picked up their preorders. I wonder how many people preorder and then went the Wii route anyway.
