if you look at the sales figures of Japanese video games the psp the console the before it came out people were saying will eat nintendo out of the market and going agent the ds which people were saying no one wanted and was a s**t idea and they were so wrong look at the sales figures of the market in japan

DS Lite: 157,022
- PS2: 25,467
- PSP: 24,737
- DS Phat: 10,132

and this gets me to my point of what i am saying if this carries on then the i can see that the market will go for the cheeper and different to gaming style with the wii instead of going for same old style of gaming with the ps3

That's the case in Japan, not the world.

Remember that most people that have PS2s will already have them; you can't compare this console to DS/PSP.

I suspect, although I have no back-up figures, that PSP is nearly equal or exceeding DS in sales in US and Europe.

yeah, i would definitely bet on the psp outselling the ds in the uk if not europe in general. all casual gamers ive spoken to (in real life) have sung the praises of or already bought the mighty psp.

The DS is outselling the PSP by a 2 to one ratio if not more in Europe also, only the UK is the exception.
In the US, both handhelds have been equal but with the launch of the DS Lite, Nintendo is coming on top also.

What does this say really? Native englisch speakers are stupid image-conscious people that couldn't see a fun product even if it bit them in the ass, balls and nose. Well...the majority is anyway.

Despite what many have said against DS from the start it got to shelves first and has an impressive software library to date.

Can't really say the same about PSP, even though I own both DS and PSP.

My PSP games are Burnout Legends, Ridge Racers, Initial D (import), MGA 1 and 2, Monster Hunter, Virtua Tennis and Fifa 06. These are a few of the best on PSP that appeal to me.

In contrast to that are my DS games which I have more of. Trauma Center UTK, Ouendan, Eyeshield 21 (anime american football), Meteos, Mario Kart, Another Code, Sonic Rush, SM64, Kirby CC, Biohazard. These give me a lot of fun.

In general I feel because of Nintendo's Touch Genereation campaign and selection of games, along with the DS, I feel they still have to edge over Sony and they'll continue to do so for a very long time. The US market figures matter little for PSP, when a young DS owner can play the same games with his grandfather, without said grandfather giving up.

We know Nintendo have really started something that we all been trying to do with games for ages.

i would get a psp, but there are 3 things that are stopping me. battery life, price, and amount of quality psp exclusive games. y'know, games that are both good and dont have a bigger brother on the ps2.

im sure at the end of the psp's days, it will have resolved all three of those things.

well, it will probably have a library of good titles that will still wilt next to the ds's back catalogue at that time. but still, it will be great choice for a first time buyer in the future.

If there must be one winner (as several of you pointed out, you own both, so there may be some room for both to be successful) it's got to be the DS in the states.

Case in point - Went to BestBuy a week or so ago, and an older guy is talking to the sales rep, and looks at all of the stuff, sees all the games the DS can play, and buys it off the bat, with 2 games and the optional gear.

After looking at some DVD players, I was walking back through the area, and a Mom is buying one for a 6 year old girl.

No one was at the PSP display area, and there were about 25 unsold sitting on the shelves, compared to about 4 unsold DS Lites.

Last weekend, I went around looking for Super Mario 3 on the GBA, which for some reason was harder to find, so I had to go to 3 stores to find it. While at those stores, my wife went directly to the DS to play Brain Academy at every store.

She plays games (we've beaten Halo and Baldur's Gate together, play SSBM and Super Monkey Ball) but isn't the type that will go out and buy a system - but she's seems interested in the DS.

Nintendo definately hit on somehting here, getting a lot more people into its camp than sony will be capable of.

Your experience is proof that Nintendo's thinking is working.

I'm gonna keep my PSP for stuff like Ghost and Ghouls, Tekken and a few rpgs etc, but the DS clear has the edge over PSP, in price, games and audience adoption.

If it helps create more gamers that's better for everyone.

DS outsells both PSP and PS2 combined in first week of Nintendogs release; Nintendo's handheld still on top a month later.

Nintendogs, Nintendo's puppy-petting game, has helped bolster DS sales after a sluggish stretch brought on by the launch of Sony's own portable device, the PlayStation Portable. According to Media Create, the DS has been the best-selling piece of gaming hardware in Japan since the release of Nintendogs on April 21, outselling both the PlayStation 2 and the PSP. The only exception was the week of May 9, when overall game sales fell as Japanese workers returned to work after the golden week of holidays.

The Nintendo DS was trailing the PSP and PS2 the week before the release of Nintendogs, selling 21,698 units against 28,950 PSP units and 30,572 PS2 units. But when Nintendogs arrived, DS sales exploded to 96,191 units, outselling both the PSP (33,004) and the PS2 (33,080) combined.
