I used to like rock music. But it pretty much died with Kurdt.

Now we have sanitised cross-promoted, over-produced, under-talented corporate s**t.

The Scorpions. Heh, are you German?

I listen to all sorts of music. Game music, dance music, rnb, hip hop etc etc.

I've become disillusioned by the mainstream music scene over the last ten years or so, and find myself looking for lesser known gems in music.

This usually leads me to hunt online for something new at places like Live365.com and other free station or pod casters like tartanpodcast website. Online word of mouth works well and you appreaciate the artists more for dodging the money grabbing middlemen.

So where have I been lately, due to lack of posting? Just come back from Ibiza with my cool mates. First time there and it's damn hot (the ladies are hotter mind) but the music and night life are the nuts.

For anyone interested in legally downloading music, without paying iTunes prices - try www.emusic.com the selection is superb, you get to download up to 90 tracks a month for a price of around £13 (it's billed in dollars so this can go up).

I've been with them for around three years now, and I cannot recommend them highly enough.

They do a free trial, where you can download and keep 25 (I think) tracks. But if anyone feels like giving it a go, please let me recommend you, cause I get a bunch of free downloads if you sign up.

I prefer rock to rap but do enjoy the ocasional rap/rock cross over.

interesting note on thast subject for any of my fellow angry white boys (doc?) i read an interview with sticky fingaz of ONYX fame who is now playing Blade in the new tv series (we get some terribel free rags in the office) and in it he mentioned that he has a new album comming out called "the black rock" and its all rap over rock music stuff... probably gonan be trash... but ill most likely pick it up anyway cause im a sucker like that.

Also, like joji... i'm very sick of most new music... but unlike MR. J i am far to lazy to go looking for new and interesting things... as the bumper stickers say... i'd rather be gaming ;)

I'd go with that.

Though I like LOTS of stuff. Japanese Shibuya-Ku (Pizzicato 5) , Sickly girly-pop (St. Ettiene or Sing-Sing), Punk (Sex Pistols, Stranglers, Siouxsie, Clash), Clash imitators (Sublime, Rancid), Blues Noise (Jon Spencer, Chrome Cranks, Royal Trux), Blues (RL Burnside), Shoegazer Noise (Yume Bitsu, Telescopes and Asobi Seksu), Stoner Rock (Oneida, Monster Magnet, Blind Dog), Classic Grunge (Tad, Nirvana, Mudhoney), The holy trinity (Iggy, Bowie, Reed), Classical (Tchaikovsky, Satie), lounge jazz (Sinatra), f**ked up country psychedelic pop (Sinatra jr and Lee Hazlewood), pop (Spice Gurlz, Nelly Farturdo), pop punk (Blink, Bloodhound, Sum41), Japanese flute (Yoshikazu Iwamoto, Tadashi Tajima), Rap (P.O.S., RJD2, MC Solaar, Ice T) plus lots, lots more.

This morning there were 45426 MP3 in my collection. But I just downloaded (legally!!!) another 55 - Bendon Benson, Pretty Girls Make Graves, New Wet Kojak, Cat Power.

It's been a while since I've bought a "new" CD, I've been spending more time trying to locate some of my older CDs that have gotten trashed or "borrowed" by friends (for the past 5 years). A few of the last CDs I bought:

Underworld: Secondtoughestintheinfants
Aphex Twin: Selected Ambient Works vol 2
Handsome Boy Modeling School: White People

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Dr. Octogon yet. It's one of the best rap albums I've ever listened to. Although...be careful where you listen to it. Use Headphones if you're unsure.

Other music I endorse:
Soul Coughing
Anything with Dan the Automator (although Gorillaz seems too watered down for me, others seem to enjoy that one)
David Bowie
DJ Shadow
Flaming Lips (Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots is sweet)
Public Enemy
Reverend Horton Heat

Kind of a mixed bag, but not too much.

If you all are looking for hard-to-find music, I would heartily recommend alternativemusic.com. its prices aren't always the best, but they usually have some things by your favorite groups that you didn't know existed.

When I lived in Rochester, NY it was the best place to find non-commercialized music. When I was there about a month ago, they had some punk band singing the theme to the old cartoon "Gem." and surprisingly to me, it rocked. Forgot to pick it up though.

Well, I like any kind of music that I can bob my head to really. Be it pop, rock, punk, whatever. Having said that, most of the tracks that get me going are rock, metal or Japanese oriented.

A couple of artists I enjoy on a regular basis include (in no particular order of name, preference or genre), m-flo, The Mad Capsule Markets, Tool, Deftones, The Offspring, Sum 41, Acid Android, L'arc~en~Ciel, Audioslave, Blur, Chimaira, Buffalo Daughter, Disturbed, DJ Sammy, Uzumaki, Will Smith, Tupac, Rob Zombie, Foo Fighters, Killswitch Engage, Spineshank, Guitar Wolf (cheers Marcus!), Bloody Imitation Society, Mucc, Teriyaki Boyz, Metallica, Rammstein, Nickelback, Nine Inch Nails, Missile Girl Scoot, Prodigy, Basement Jaxx, Pantera, Soulfly...

Too many to name basically. XP

Haha, it's only the one track that gets me, admittedly. But if I said that, it would still have counted as the artist, I'd imagine. :F

FYI, the track is 'Detangler'. (Technically) before they got mass-popular, but even their debut album isn't much to shout about so it's not even true saying popularity killed them. Now you mentioned it, you made me listen to the track again (as I've not heard it in a while) and it's still pretty good to me... except the blatantly horrid Chad squealing. Man......... >_>

But yeah, most things from them just sucked. I stopped caring after that 'Remind Me' song.

OK before you all gang rape me, lol... Spice Girls? ;) We all have guilty minds in this virtual room. :D Nickelback just happens to be my travesty, dammit. :)

... Ironically, Kroeger(sp?)'s voice is sounding more and more retarded with each play on my Winamp's random playlist after this topic. -_-;

i listen to the lesser known stuff, stuff that doesnt get in the charts for the most part. not that im one of these people that starts disliking a band if bcomes popular, its just that 99% of what i consider good music isnt enjoyed by the general public.

its mainly filthy alternative/rock/metal/punk like Oxes, Zeni Geva, Rapeman, Melt Banana. but i also have an ear for a bit of total noise like Merzbow or Whitehouse, and also in the name of nostalgia i appreciate things i grew up with, like the beatles and aerosmith.
