So, after several weeks and 90 entries and much discussion, our new logo is finally ready to be unveiled. Before you open the attached PDF, please note that we really do want to keep it under wraps externally until we're ready for the public launch on June 1st.
We had a great response from each of the four Future countries to our logo competition announced just before Christmas. The standards were pleasingly high. To all those who entered: many thanks (and we're sending an Amazon voucher for £25/$50/€40 to all those unsuccessful).
The anonymously-supplied logos were judged by the bosses of our four countries: Robert Price (UK), Jonathan Simpson-Bint (US), Sari Zaimi (France) and Bernardo Notarangelo (Italy), together with me. Though you might expect such a discussion to be complicated and highly-charged, in reality it was quite straightforward. The various entries were whittled down, a shortlist was created - and the winner was chosen.
Only at that point did we discover who had created it. The system meant that all logos were assigned a number and we had absolutely no idea who the winner was until we checked.
And the winner is...
...From Future UK, Matt Williams..! Now, as it happens, Matt is the UK's Managing Art Director. So it's perhaps not a major surprise to discover that he produced the logo which we felt was the strongest. (But for those of you who might think it was a fix - for shame! - I do stress that it was chosen anonymously on its own merits.) Congrats from us all, Matt.
What happens next
We will have a co-ordinated roll out of the logo across the whole Future group, with everything published after June 1 carrying the new logo. This will mean that the publishing teams will have to introduce the new look from late April onwards. We're producing a FutureLogo style book and will distribute via CD-Rom in mid-April. Everything you need to know about the application and use of the new look will be covered in the style book. Any queries or if you need anything to do with the logo before mid-April, please contact Terri Davey [terri.davey@futurenet.co.uk].
Step forward This new logo is modern, stylish, friendly and has great impact. The name change to Future plc and the new single identity marks a real step forward for Future. 2005 is proving to be an exciting time for us; we're making good progress towards our stated aim of doubling the size of the Group. I'm really pleased to be introducing this new logo, especially because it's been produced from within the company.
Last bit
In closing, please remember that we want to make a public statement on this from June 1st onwards. That's when it'll appear on magazines, websites, stationery, buildings, CDs, business cards, media packs, brochures, etc.

What a rubbish logo. If this is a real logo, they really are going down the drain.
That's can't be a the real logo. It's like a 70's vdersion of what someone with an overly literal mind would create taking the word "future" as their only inspiration.
And they should turn that frown upside down ;-) or is it a small sun emerging from behind a much larger (or maybe much closer) planet?
But to be fair, I prefer it to their current logo.
You can tell a good logo though, when a company doesn't feel the need to change it every five years.
What a f**king mess. If I were Ingham, I'd demand my money back and sue for damages ... although, going on current Future output quality that could be an in-house job.
Here's a much better logo. With just a few minor alterations it's so easy to turn trash in to a gem.
Stop that outrageous flirting this instant! What if my girlfriend should wander by and look over my shoulder? I'd be destitute! Could you live with that?

You're the one who hubba'd me, cheeky. Anyway, I'm your girlfriend now!
