sadly i have seen that story else where so we cant blame MSN's obvious intrests in pushing such an article. It does indeed look like a very bad sign for nintendo... tis a real shame... i just read a review for RE4... WOW... maybe the brits will get lucky and pick up a new copy for 5.99 :)
Yes, the culling has begun. Went into town today, for a bit of predatory GC sales shopping. Virgin Megastore have stopped stocking all GC products. Woolworths had 2 wrestling games. GAME had quite an abundant collection of games/peripherals but they were all RRP, WTF ;-)
In the end I came away with Pikmin for £6.99 from Index.

First us, it's GamesRadar (Future axis of evil), not MSN (Microsoft axis of evil) that wrote the peice.
Regardless, writing "both PlayStation 2 and Xbox having had a hugely successful Christmas, thanks to the recent releases of AAA titles like GTA San Andreas and Halo 2, Nintendo half-heartedly countered with a Cube bundle that featured the year-old Mario Kart" is just garbage. Comparing a couple of exclusive titles to a bundle is s**t journalism. If we compare GameCube titles, we see exclusives in the form of Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, Paper Mario 2: The Thousand Year Door and Tales of Symphonia.
I think the real issue is the low low price point of the Gamecube perpherials, games, and systems. Which I'm assuming is correct, really sucks for Nintendo. But then again, they're shooting themselves in the foot. They really need to knock it out of the park with this Revolution their hyping. But I doubt it. It'll just be more half-assed Pokémon games and dumb perpherials that only work for Bong Bong's Wild Air Dash Buzikio 14. Poor Nintendo...
This is no big deal really, it started over a year ago when Dixons stopped selling gamecube hardware, and branches of woolies were selling them off for £19.99 (or £39.99 with the GB Player).
Globally both M$ and Ninty have sold a similar amout of console hardware I think, and both pale into insignificance next to Sony. It's like fighting over table scraps, the next gen will be interesting, where all 3 will leave the starting blocks pretty close together, probably all in 2006.
I don't see a huge amount of forthcoming Sony or M$ releases that are getting me excited... ICO2 maybe. The 'cube still has plenty to offer those that care, RE4 is on the way, and there's still Zelda, which is probably a year away from a PAL release at least. After that it's curtains for the 'cube, but by then we'll be pre-ordering the revolution (or PS3/XBOX2).
I'm an old hand at owning consoles with classic AAA games, unfairly fading into insignificance. The GC is so similar to DC, N64 and Saturn, in that, some of the exclusive game were of genuine quality. Games that you'll remember (and play) long after the system is dead.
I don't think it's really all that important owning a system that has a strong market share for 4-6 years. Even if a system is only around for about 2-3, it's fine by me if I get half a dozen AAA games.
Having only had my GC for a day now, I'm really dissapointed I didn't get it earlier. Donkey Konga has ended years of female/male divide amongst my circle of friends. And Level 1 of Pikmin was a joy. And I haven't even got my hands on Mario and Zelda yet :-)

True, but Xbox titles sell significantly more, and they've got a million subscribers on Live. Extra revenue always helps, and it's why UK retailers are dropping the Cube and keeping the Xbox. The global situation doesn't matter to those people.
At this stage in the console lifecycle, it really doesn't matter - we know that Sony has won, and that Gamecube hasn't. The short term effects are that some hotly-anticipated Gamecube games won't come out over here. In the long term, it does no good to Nintendo's reputation, especially with the retailers, who ultimately they need to stay in the game.
It's times like these that some gamers will rush to get the last gems before a systems official demise and I suppose I'm one of them. At the same time I know the beauty of the GC is Freeloader which lets you bag imports long after Game etc have shifted GC from their shelves.
Damn, even DC still has games coming out for it in japan now. When the same happens to GC I'm sure I'll be there. And if the revolution runs my GC games that's icing on the cake.

Rats, I already have a GameCube, so I can't profit from its demise. I could pick up some cheap games though...
I remember my ColecoVision, bought in its dying days from a record shop (!*&£"?) in the Merrion Centre in Leeds. For £40 - which was a giveaway in those days, when consoles cost as much as a family car.
I got the steering wheel for a tenner, and a whole bunch of games for £3 each.
How I wish I'd kept THAT lot! And it's still the nest console I ever owned*
*except for the PlayStation, PlayStation 2, N64, Jaguar, GameCube, CD-32, Dreamcast and Megadrive.
