Does anyone else share the same opinions about Fable? I think an 8.5 is for someone who loves the game, and 7.5 for someone who likes the game, and I suppose a 7 or 6.5 for someone who's blah about it. If you think mindless hack and slash combat dressed up in a supposed real RPG isn't fun, I think your partially right.

Gah, I didn't want to start off bitching. This post is all about your gripes/loves with Fable. What you hate, what you love, what's ridiculous, what should of been, what should be changed, sequel material?

Go Nuts!

Man, people must be really disgusted with Fable to not comment. Too busy bodyslamming their copies I suppose.

Well the main reason I can't comment - as I stated when the game came out. Is that although I'd quite like to give it a go, I don't have an Xbox.

And Fable and Halo2 aren't enough to convince me to buy one. Or even to borrow one of the office ones.

I did say "quite"

Millions would beg, no, demand to differ. I'd be one of them.

I'd like to qualify that by stating that the series has been going down a very steep incline since the first game.

Fable, while it lasts, is fantastic; it's just that "while it lasts" bit that's the problem. 4 hours is not a long time, especially when people expected 40.

Likes? The openness of character upgrading. No recommended upgrades, no forced upgrade points... if you want, you can even try to finish it without upgrading once. It is hard, but not impossible.

Dislikes? Some missions are too short. Some have too obvious a choice between good and bad. And you can't change your mind about taking a mission.

For the sequel? Open up the rest of that map. Make the missions even less structured; some are a little railroaded. And give us Legendary Armour, for crying out loud. A few more new spells and abilities would be nice, too. Oh, and let us give all the details of our finish of the original, so we can affect the sequel. Or, start with a new hero and lose it all. Maybe you could start as a kid to a Bandit...

Most overrated game? Either every PS2 Tomb Raider or Killzone...

Overrated? Not so much. Overhyped? Sure, but I'm really enjoying the final game because I completely missed all the hype. Thus, I go in with no unrealistic expectations.

If only I could somehow miss the hype for all games.

I don't think either of those were over rated - I certianly don't recall many glowing reviews. DRIV3L was certianly overrated by certain Future magazines, but that's what they were paid for...
On the other hand, they were both overhyped to death, and there was no way any game could meet the expectations the respective publishers set.
Hell, even Half-Life 2 doesn't live up to expectations set by the hype machine, though it's still one of the best games I've ever played.

Killzone is actually quite good. The visuals are stunning, especially considering the "crap graphics" that the PS2 is alleged to have (that'd be the eye-candy Xbox fanboys, off course), but it is let down by its repetative "just shoot s**t" nature and the tedious sameness of the enemy.

I think I might go back to it and see how it develops...

By every PS2 Tomb Raider do you mean the only one, Angel of Darkness?

It was certainly over hyped before the reviews, but I don't remember the reviews being overly good. I distinctly remember that even the BBC gave it a panning.

Maybe he means every TR game that's playable on the PS2, which would include all PSX versions ;)

You really liked it eh? You weren't mad about the slash-s**t-centric gameplay? Or how they just kept pushing you to do quest after quest without any regard to all the hyped features like marriage and property buying? Everytime I wasn't on a quest, the guild master was telling me, "Listen punk, get yer ass back here and pick up the f**kin' quest card I got fer ya. Ya know I only get paid to say, 'There's a new quest card at the guild.'!". What about the lame ass boss? The fact that when I talk to townsfolk x and the have something for me to do, I have to run (or teleport but that doesn't change that fact that I have to still) all the way back to the guild to pick up the damn quest? And I could go on, but I wont.

I did had fun playing the game, the graphics and sound were amazing. Voice acting, top notch. But when it's four years in the hype machine, I expect a little more than hold L trigger and smash X to complete game. I should have just spent the weekend at a friends house and blown through it like taco bell in your stomach. I'm very excited about the sequel but I'm not gonna get worked up over it.

And yes Tomb Raider did suck ass, but it didn't have four years of ridiculous hype and claims like this is may be the best RPG ever. Who does he think he is? Populus can only get you so far. And the reviews, lots of 9s and 8s, bullshit! So I don't think that game or even Killzone can come close to overratedness of Fable.

Endnote: If I want to play a freefrom game where I can do what I want, when I want, to whomever I want, I'll play Fallout 1 and 2.

Take as in play the s**t out of it like it was Jesus' dick and I had to suck it off to stay alive, then no. If by take you mean have a mild amount of fun with it and is anxious for the sequel, then yes.
