Why don't companies realize that there's 10/10 scores waiting to happen with some of these classic games!

Who wants an ARCHON sequel? I know I do. If you haven't played it, you need to. The Mortal Kombat Chess game is like ARCHON lite. And guess who made and published the damn game EA!!! There were 2 sequels on the C64 and an update for the 386 in the early 90s. But I mean they can do soooo much with this game.

Basically the original ARCHON was a modified chess board with a set of pawn like creatures in the front (trolls or knights depending on which side you were on) and the back had a sort of similar chess setup. Manticores for one side and Banshees for the other. (rooks) There were all sorts of other monsters like shapeshifters which took the shape of whoever they were fighting, archers, phoenixes(spelling?), dragons, salamanders and the like. The king type character was a wizard who could cast various spells, one per each turn. Whenever characters clashed, unlike destroying a piece like in chess, they would battle for the square. Winner stays, losers dies. This is one of my favorite games still to this day.

Other needed sequels:

Final Fight - more like GTA, but less overblown, more penalty for causing havoc, and the karma meter from True Crime.

Super Dodge Ball - need I say more.
Startropics
Final Fantasy Tactics
Ogre Battle

Archon - created and published by EA!
Fallout
Super Dodge Ball
Final Fantasy Tactics
Ogre Battle
Castlevania - Symphony Of The Night
Final Fight - more like GTA, but less overblown, more consequences, and the karma meter from True Crime.
Golden Axe
Weaponlord - it's a Namco property and totally awesome

i never played it but from the discription i think i see a great potential tie in... the chess board from starwars! with the holographic monsters fighting. all cool and 3d, i coudl see that workign real well. I doubt it woudl ever pull a 10/10 but it could be cool.

i personaly want some more quality beat em ups. aside from the crap that is fighting force i havent seen any decent beat em up game in forever. (there is some new one for the xbox i got on a demo disk a whiel ago that was ok but i dont remeber the name off hand) where is the new streets of rage and golden axe? you get a couple startign charcters, throw in unlockable moves as you progress and let up to 4 players go through at the same time, and make it deeper than those damn gauntlet games, and youd have yourself a winner. i think sega could pull it off.

and speakign of sega why cant they stop trying to make mario 64 and stick to what they are good at. the first sonic adventure woudl have been awsoem if i didnt have to use the other charcters(especially those god forsaken knuckles levels), gimme 20 levels of sonic tearing ass through rediculous scenarios and im a happy camper.

im sure ill think of others but those are two thing i woudl relly love, oh and a good new shenmue game, i love shenmue, no matter how much it sucks.

I'm with ya. As long as they keep all the magic that made the originals that were great, like when the little goblins tried to steal your magic potions or the police that could fire rounds of explosives from the street and end up ANYWHERE, like an elevator going up to Big Boss.

Ogre Battle had two sequels to the SNES version.

Persons Of Lordly Caliber was the N64 version that never reached these shores. It used N64 well too.

Their was also Tactics Ogre Knight of Lodis a GBA version released early in the GBAs life. This was the most recent Ogre game but again never reached uk/euro shores. This TO is the base of games like FF Tactic Advance and Onimusha Tactics.

Both PoLC and TO:KoL were released in the u.s though, and I'm sure if you hunt around ebay or u.s import game stores you may find them. Both I believe are very good.

Yeah, I'm well aware of all those sequels. But for one, I don't really think the GBA FFT is really the sequel that people wanted. I'm talking a full fledged PS2 full 3D sequel. Same goes for Ogre Battle, I know the N64 and it was fantastic. But it doesn't seem like any new ones are in the works.

Two words Battle Chess (Interplay, 1989)

That was Star Wars holo chess, complete with neat animations whenever one piece took another.

Looked even better on the Atari ST (later ported to Amiga). Sadly, we don't appear to have any screen shots of these, so if anyone can help out, it'd be much appreciated.

I actually used to have battle chess for my old 86 pc, with bad ass 4 color cga graphics! I Think the idea at hand is slightly more akin to the Kombat chess in the new MK game where not only do you have to move your pieces stratgically the charcters would fight it out, weatehr it was player controlled or maybe based on stats they had built up over the course of the game i dunno. But just somethign to deepen it a little bit.

note: if i remeber correctly the roke(spelling?) turned into like a stone golem when it walked around which was freaking awsome. smashed the crap out of the competition!

I had to quote myself because this game is soooo much better than Battle Chess in regards to gameplay. Although Battle Chess came out a while after Archon did and sported better animations, Archon actually let you duke it out in 4 color arenas AND they actually shifted around during battle too! Go EA. And that MK Chess bullshit, a dumbed down Archon. Damn I need to find you guys emulators and roms of this. Next post, I swear it!

i have one word and 2 syllables:

moonstone

turn based, rpg-ish, hacking the crap out of all and sundry. And you got to lop the heads off your friends. With the current moral uproar about games like GTA:SA, I'm sure some developer could really make a sequel with unprecedented levels of gore to get those indignant self righteous juices flowing - I'm sure the only thing holding Mindscape back when they released the original was the hardware restrictions of the Amiga.

Ooohhh... while i'm on the subject, any of the old guard games by the Bitmap Brothers - gods especially;not a GBA remake, a real sequel!

and one last one, that really shouldn't be forgotten, is Myth: History in the making... and flashback&another world by Delphine... the list is endles.... hell, Holywood is making millions by dredging up old, well tested stock, why can't the gaming industry do it a little more often (exposing my self for a torrent of "but they already are...." - prince of persia anyone?).

I too am big Moonstone fan and I'm surprised their hasn't been a sequel yet. A Hard days Knight really put a punch in the old Amigas games library, just a shame that not very many people ever talk about it. Next to games like Lemmings and Turrican series it was cool.

A Moonstone update would be very welcome, only thing is that a lot of games these days do the kind of action that Moonstone once did, but in 3D with all the trimmings. A polished GBA version would be very welcome all the same and I'm sure GBA could handle it with ease.

Anyone wanna start another petition, LOL?

And a proper follow-up to The Chaos Engine, with the bloody co-op multiplayer intact goddammitt!!

Sorry, loved the first one, hated competitive multiplayer in the second.

Lemmings, hell yeah! Anyone remember Lemmings 3D or Lemmings Revolution?! Fantastic. Another 3D one or even just more 2D would be awesome.

Sam and max anyone? i know i signed the petition. unfortunatly with the Tim Schaffer from the original working on pstchonauts i doubt a new version woudl be anywhere near as good as the classics. plus i would preffer a hand draw update like the last 2d moneky island.

I think a new generation of really top notch hand drawn adventure games woudl be awsome. especially day of the tentacle! god i loved that game.

Also, to heck with NFL blitz, now that EA baught the NFL exclusive sega should focus it's energies on Mutant leage football! nothing more fun than the kill the ref option!

other fun ideas... a new 3d mario paint... like the one they made for the 64dd that never came out in the US/EU. A monkey ball game that is more liek marble madness, with a giant landscape to navigate, mayeb some evenmies to avoid/kill (by rolling over or tricking them into runnign off edges) I think i huge long mario style game where the only control is one joystick has some incredible level design possibilities. pushing things, flipping switches, running over air vents, going through tubes liek old sonic games. Perhapse it could be in tiny form, like the old micromachine games, use a ruller on a book liek a catapult. so on and so forth. coudl even have a cool multiplayer battle thing with tons of weird stack of objects and ramps and such and you just go to town trying to crush/ trap your oponent, just a big "fun with in-game physics" playground.

Also for anyoen that has ever played kareoke revolution, i think they should make a game like flying tight (usually found on cell phones, all you do is press back to make the plaine go up and it naturally goes down and you go through a side scrollign cave thing) except you controll it with the pitch of your voice! i know it wouldn't tmake a whole game. Maybe it could be one of those mic controlled games for the DS, woudl be funny as s**t watchign/listening to somebody play that!

thats all for now, back to the crack pipe!
