nintendo ds will crush the psp psp have shortages, high prices, no new ideas.
Well, here in the US we're having DS shortages too! I think hands-down that the DS is a much more innovative system, but I know plenty of gamers with SONY loyalty. Face it: people want to watch movies and everyone wants to play GT4 on a hand-held. I just try to stick with a console/handheld company that makes it's own quality games.
I love the DS. As lame as it sounds, with all my years of gaming experience I'm still in awe that I can play Mario 64 on that tiny little screen. I think the touch-screen was a great idea, especially for mini-game oriented titles like Feel The Magic and WarioWare Inc.
The wireless networking works great too! I'm definately looking forward to Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, and hopefully something from RARE.

Pardon my putting a downer on proceedings, but is there any particular reason to look forward to something by Rare? The company hasn't made any truly great games post-N64 that I'm aware of, and thus I don't feel that their previously good reputation is justified anymore.
As it goes, has there been anything shown in Mario Kart DS yet that truly takes advantage of the system's unique functions?
Rare already said there were no DS titles from them, didn't they?
Well, that too. As far as I was aware, the continued GBA support was merely forced by a clause in the sale to Microsoft.
And i love the DS. The PSP still has to convince me that it can make up for all those "design quirks".
Both still need to convince me at present, and the Inland Revenue is soon to be providing me with a tax refund large enough to buy one of the systems plus a few games. If I'm not convinced soon, that money's going on DVDs, music, import Dreamcast games and Neo Geo Pocket stuff.

I really enjoyed "Grabbed by the Ghoulies" and "Star Fox Adventures", plus I think that RARE's "Kameo" looks amazing. But to be fair, I guess I'm still filled with a little-bit of old-school love. I can understand that Goldeneye won't re-appear (since EA owns the rights) but I'd kill for another DK or even Jet-Force Gemeni.
And Hey, a lot of Nintendo's marketing is based off appealing to the older gamer. The DS marks the a new oppertunity for RARE to develope games for a Nintendo system. Even better, a system with hardware comperable to that on which they put out their best (imho) hits!
As for mario kart, I think we're just looking at an updated version that will make no more use of the DS than it's wi-fi capabilities and the touch-screen as a map (menu selection?) I can live with that though ;)

I totally agree. I got Starfox advenures purely because it was done by Rare, and I'll be honest, I was disappointed. It was like a chore, in much the same way I find Point and Click games are sometimes (despite playing a bunch of them). My friend got Grabbed by the Ghoulies and traded it in soon after. Most of the personnel at Rare who worked on the N64 'classics' jumped ship at some point and most of them formed Free Radical, known for the awesome Timesplitters games. God I played that second one for months but then I found counter-strike... cough...
