Yeah, Microsoft can jog on with that one. At £130, it's going to have to ad-bomb the industry and consumers in terms of marketing. Mind you, Microsoft has enough cash, so it might not be such an outrageous theory...
at that price i could buy a second had wii some how i think micro$oft are going about it all wrong i think i will be just buying playstation move and possable buy kinect when its pre-owned and at a nicer price good old amazon/ebay
At that price, you have to wonder if this is just a way of testing the tech, getting people used to the idea and basically paving the way for making a splash with Kinect on the NeXtBox.
This is it though - if it's a test, does Microsoft have the patience to see it through into the next wave of consoles? It's like the whole "core games are coming for Kinect, honest - in 2012" deal - are people willing to wait that long for what they would perceive to be a 'satisfying' experience with the device? If the market decides Kinect is worthless in say, a year, then Microsoft probably won't bother with it and just scrap the thing. Which would be something of a waste really.
for the people that all ready have 360's i think the price is a little high comperd to playstation move but if you were a wii owner the target people that i think that sony / microsft are going for that would be buying a console at the same time then there not much difrents Kinect With Kinect Adventures £129.99 Xbox 360 250GB £199.99 Total: £329.98 Sony PlayStation 3 250GB Slim Console £284.99 PlayStation Move Motion Controller & Eye Camera £49.99 Total: £334.98
but if you were a wii owner the target people that i think that sony / microsft are going for that would be buying a console at the same time then there not much difrents
That's a good point, Phil. PLUS, with Kinect you can do multiplayer right out of the box. I guess then it comes back round to whether you want Blu-ray, as well. Thing is, you've still got the Wii at £180. I know it's not HD and all that, but I'm not sure how much casual buyers care. And if you don't own a current generation console at this point, you're definitely a casual buyer.
@Svend: I don't reckon a lot of people are going to be buying Kinect this winter in the hope there'll be core games for it down the line. They'll hold off. By the time MSoft get round to putting the core games out, it could already be perceived as a failure. Not to be all gloomy about it or anything...
@Spinface: Yeah, that was what I meant. :) Frazzled brain while posting probably meant I wrote something that sounded like something else. Or something. Yeah.
But you're right, people will hold off and wait, and by that point - if the whole 2012 thing is to be believed - the peripheral could already be considered a failure. Do developers working on 'core' titles for Kinect want to take the risk in making such titles if they're going to be released in such uncertain times? That's the challenge for them I think.
its kinda make me laff like iv said for laong time the 360 feals like to megadrive sale fantastic try to make extra things for it but thay dont do that well mega cd (hddvd 360) 32x (kinect 360) we will no if its floped if we go in to a gameing store and find the kinect under £20 in six months
Not a chance. It's a bloody a costly outlay for a few party games. - especially as I don't have a 360 at the mo.
Ditto
Plus we had our parents over the other weekend, they've both got Wii (mainly because of me) and I was explaining Kinect and Move to them but neither of them saw the point, when the Wii offers them everything they want. They see the PS3 and 360 has complicated machines that scare them and they wouldn't know how to use them! Some of them still struggle with the Wii controls and which button to press when playing Wii sports (resort).
So I can't see this generation of Wii owners going for it.
In my mind Sony seem to have made something that uses the technology that is available and made it work, Microsoft seem to be aiming at the future and showing what could be possible but are just a bit to early to the party this time round.
there's not a chance i'm paying that amount for a trumped up eyetoy. i didn't like eyetoy because hopping up and down and spazzing around wasnt any fun at all. it all felt sortof disconnected from the game
