SEGA Announces Bizarre Third-Person Shooter

Bizarre Creations’ new project.

SEGA Europe Ltd. and SEGA of America, Inc. announced earlier today that a new Bizarre Creations-developed next gen title called The Club (Working Title) is due for release in 2007.

You will of course know Bizarre Creations as the studio behind one of SPOnG’s favourite 360 titles, Project Gotham Racing 3. With this latest project, they plan to “...redefine and refresh the mechanics of third-person action shooters just as they have shaken up the racing genre”, according to the press release blurb.

The release continues:

The Club focuses on addictive and rewarding gameplay that tests your skills to the limit and offers a relentless pace never before seen within the genre… offering frantic, fast paced gameplay with a unique style, tone and storyline that drips with energy, attitude and anarchy, The Club will be a genuine showcase for the capabilities of the next-gen platforms by maximising the graphical and audio technology available to give a gameplay experience that is second to none. The game focuses on addictive and rewarding gameplay that tests your skills to the limit and leaves you, and the rest of the world, in no doubt about how good you really are.

So, heavy on promises, but low on actual details. Matt Woodley, Creative Director of SEGA goes on to say that he can’t put the game down, even in its current early stages. He, of course, is paid to say these kind of little white lies. We won’t be too harsh on him though, as we want to interview the Bizarre guys out at E3 next week – a new Bizarre-developed game, brought to you by SPOnG’s favourite publisher can really only be something special.

The Club is defined as “A loosely organised and highly illegal underground entity”, a meeting ground for those seeking the ultimate in vicarious thrills, and those who want to watch them. So, a bit like the A-team perhaps?

The game is set in a variety of “...unusual and evocative locations scattered across the globe” where you get to wield “high-powered weaponry in a bid to earn your escape”. Hmmm, it does sound very much like the A-Team. You remember, the cabbage firing guns and that…No? (Crazy fool - it’s clearly nothing like the A-Team – Ed).

We’re scheduled to see it next Wednesday, so we’ll bring you the details then.

Shaking up the shooting genre is the new shaking up the driving genre, it seems... didn't Criterion make a similar statement about their intentions when they announced Black?
