Nintendo of America has just confirmed that the iPod-a-like must-have gadget of 2006, the engineering miracle that is the DS Lite (pictured here), is to launch on June 11 in the land of the brave and the home of the free for a mere $130.
And whilst there is still no news on a European launch (come on Nintendo of Europe!) it is still good news for European gamers, as it means that we should expect it pretty soon after this date, for an equally reasonable price of around £99.99 or so in the land of hope and glory. The US, initially, will only get the one coloured DS, but happily, it’s going to be the white one. Polar white, at that.
SPOnG would normally put a call in to Nintendo to find out more about an exact Euro launch and price, but we won’t bother as it’s the day before they fly out to E3, and we are sure they are still fielding calls from irate fanboys, many of whom are convinced that the Wii is still one big hoax and wii’ll (sic) all be told next week what the actual, proper videogame-sounding name for Nintendo’s next console is going to be.
New Super Mario Bros. launches on May 15, so expect a casual-gamer-enticing bundle of DS Lite/Mario joy to be in stateside stores on June 11.
Metroid Prime Hunters and Tetris DS are both already packed in SPOnG’s E3 bag. Now, where did we put those tickets, money, passport…
