If you are a PC gamer and not (yet) the proud owner of Microsoft’s increasingly essential next gen 360 console, you may have been wondering a little about what the fuss has been over Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter over the last couple of months.
Well, you need wonder no more, as Ubisoft has just released a PC demo for the PC version (er, obviously! – Ed) which you can
download by clicking here. Also check out these latest screens of the PC version which Ubi has kindly sent over.
This 509MB sample should give you a good taste of Ubi’s future-warfighting classic. The demo features the game's second mission set in a hyper-realistic Mexico City of 2013.
As the accompanying press announcement tells us: “The Ghosts have learned that a putsch has happened during the North American Joint Security Agreement summit. They enter the historical centre to secure both US and Mexican presidents. While extracting the presidents the Ghosts understand that their undercover operation is about to turn into a civil war where everything can happen, even the worst…”
A putsch, for those who are not unhealthily obsessed with warfare terminology is a secretly planned and suddenly executed attempt to overthrow a government.
The game is best played, SPOnG has discovered, on the biggest monitor you can get hold of, with the surround sound at full volume. You will almost poo yourself with fear, so make sure you’ve done your daily ablutions before trying out the demo.
The demo can be played alone or with three other people over a LAN if you fancy teaming up with friends, which is loads more fun. Recommended specs are a P4 2GHz, GeForce 6/7 or Radeon 9600-9800, and 1GB RAM and 5GB hard disk space - although we fancy the latter's for the full game rather than the demo.
The game’s out on May 5, which is the day SPOnG will be frantically searching for passports, travel sickness pills, sunglasses and fresh-smelling pants to take out to E3 the following day.
