There is rampant rumour setting servers ablaze across the Internet that is seeking to peg the next full instalment of Namco's beloved Ridge Racer as a PlayStation 3 exclusive, in a case of the absolute bleeding obvious pre-empting any official news release.
According to the rapid fingertips of several fringe gaming news outlets, the game is in the process of being confirmed, with some claiming Japanese journalists are poised to announce the game for Sony new console. According to the ten emails and eight pages we were pointed to, Ridge Racer 7 will be an all new game, drawing from past versions, and be, depending on what you read, miles better than the Xbox 360 version or nowhere near as good.
Some even sent us actual PlayStation 3 Ridge Racer 7 details. The game will come with an online mode for 14 players, will be fully customisable and will be playable at E3. Its director will be Masaya Kobayashi, its producer Hideo Teramoto and Hiroshi Okubo will be in charge of sound. Just like they were for Ridge Racers PSP and Ridge Racer 6 for 360.
Either way, whether this uproar is based around a looming announcement (one that we had heard of from sources we have known and trusted for among time, albeit flagged as 'probable' from day one) hardly matters. It is blindingly obvious that Ridge Racer 7 will be released for PlayStation 3. It's The Law that Namco releases a Ridge Racer game early in the life-cycle of every Sony console. Because people buy it as it's the only game of any worth for 18 months after launch.
As for the Ridge Racer games available for Nintendo machines, the less said about them, the better.
We'll bring you updates as soon as anything is officially announced, which might be today or might be at E3.
