The daft, wee radges over at Consolevania, the
amazing online videogame review and comedy show that spawned the BBC TV series VideoGaiden, have just let us know that they have acquired the exclusive movie rights to Jeff Minter’s classic game Hover Bovver.
The movie, SPOnG is told, will go into pre-production in May 2006. We are sure that there was a cut-throat bidding war for this cutting edge cultural ‘property’ and wish to congratulate our colleagues at Consolevania for their nerve, their business acumen and their sheer bloody-mindedness in acquiring it.
“We’re delighted to have finally secured the rights to this property,” said Robert Florence, of Consolevania. “It has always been a dream of mine to bring that loveable lawnmower-stealing rogue Gordon Bennet to the big screen, and I relish the challenge ahead.”
Consolevania’s latest episode, the adults-only - Consolevania XXX - has just been released at
www.consolevania.com. SPOnG urges you to download it and watch it straight away. And if you - shame on you - have yet to see the first three full episodes of this genius videogaming show, then stop what you are doing and make this your life’s priority right now.
Jeff Minter, for those too young, stupid or drug-addled to remember, is the legendary British game designer and the founder of Llamasoft. He is most recently best known for his work on Neon, the interactive light/music synth you may well have mucked about with on your Xbox 360.
Hover Bovver was released on the Commodore 64 in 1983, before most of you were even eggs.
