Why online gaming folk feel so compelled to 'Germanise' their selected form of entertainment is anyone's guess, though most online RPGs, it has to be said, now resemble parts of the Cote d'Azur, awash with giant satellite TV-equipped RVs and beaches with warning signs in 12 languages.
Oblivion, the latest Elder Scrolls MMO from Bethesda that
surprised many by storming the UK charts last week has already shed its digital dignity, no doubt to the delight of whoever is delighted by low-resolution characters frolicking around with their tadgers and front bottoms on show.
As OblivionSource.com comments:
In the process of trying to create a nude skin for Oblivion, I found Bethesda had already done all the work for me. They just covered it up with underwear afterwards. (At least in my version - I know sometimes European versions are different, as those cultures accept the human body better.)
Bethesda's skins/models don't really look amazing once they're actually in the game, though... I'm sure someone will make better ones sooner or later. I'll be looking forward to it too.
SPOnG would like to go on the record right now as being completely baffled as to the allure of naked MMO characters. Unless it's the 'H3y 848y, w4nn4 cy83r?!' dream of being able to see as well as speak come true. But still, we are told by our less moralistic friends that such services are widely available across the Internet.
