Speaking to Tech Digest earlier today, SEGA Europe’s head honcho Mike Hayes (formerly of Codemasters fame) spilt some juicy gaming beans regarding next-gen Sonic: it will be with us this year. Yes!

Sonic - according to Hayes - will "...be released on to next gen platforms later this year… Sonic will be fifteen years old in June this year and has become one of the most recognised gaming icons during this time.”

Hayes also scotches any further daft Interweb rumours about the return of SEGA to the hardware fold at any point in the near future, stating clearly that “...there are no plans for Dreamcast to make a comeback. At the moment SEGA are concentrating solely on developing quality software for both current and next generation games consoles."

Read the entire interview with The Hayes-meister right here on Tech Digest.

We don’t really call him that, and doubt that anyone else does. We just wanted to pretend to Commander Zorg and other SEGA fanboys out there that we were closer to Sega than we actually are.

As Mr Hayes claims that he doesn’t pay attention to blogs, he is likely to never actually see the above interview. SPOnG bets that in an idle moment of Googling himself, he might just read it.
