Activision has today announced a slew of experienced and creative writing and music talent behind its forthcoming X-Men: The Official Game.

Marvel Comics Editorial Director and legendary comic book writer Chris Claremont and Zak Penn, co-screenwriter for this summer's Brett Ratner-directed X-Men: The Last Stand movie, are both on board, looking after scriptwriting duties. Claremont is known amongst comic book guys as the 'godfather' of the X-Men.

Check out this new trailer (Quicktime 14.7MB or Windows Media 9.2MB) of X-Men: The Official Game, which is the only game tied to Twentieth Century Fox and Marvel Studios' upcoming summer blockbuster X-Men: The Last Stand, and promises to immerse players in an original storyline that serves as a prelude to the movie.

Activision and developer Z-Axis are crafting a plot to fill the gaps between the end of X2: X-Men United and the upcoming sequel, so for X-Men fans, it's essential playing to learn more about the many unanswered questions.

The game will allow players to command the superpowers of Wolverine, Nightcrawler, or Iceman as they traverse unique environments that showcase each character's Superhero abilities in what is described as “an epic struggle to preserve mutant-kind.” X-Men: The Official Game will also feature a dynamic musical score created by leading sound company Womb Music, and Chance Thomas, renowned composer of King Kong, Lord of the Rings and Unreal videogames.

Expect X-Men: The Official Game to hit the streets, as marketing types are so fond of saying, on Tuesday, May 16 in teh US, and Friday 19 May in the UK.
