Brand New Zelda for DS: See the Full Direct Feed GDC Trailer Here!
Today at the Games Developers Conference in San Jose, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata announced that a brand new Zelda game for Nintendo's DS platform is well underway, showing delighted attendees a rolling demo of the game, called Legend of Zelda: Phanton Hourglass, in action.

And you can see the video too, without having to be crammed into a room full of slightly sweaty men all of whom are complaining that there was not enough free pizza at the ATi party in between heated discussions about pixel shading.

Click here, friends, to see Link in all his touch-screen glory. The server might be chugging a little under the strain, but be patient and you shall be richly rewarded. A mouthwatering blend of old and new Zelda is on show, with the dungeon scenes, complete with touch-screen weapons and items, making us wonder just how many DS games will rock our entire world.

The DS has come to represent the absolute pinnacle of handheld gaming, delivering an endless stream of software that actually demands to be explored. If the Revolution is even half as joyful as it's portable counterpart, the world of videogames will be a very happy place.

It looks a bit retro. kind of.
I wasn't very interested in a DS zelda. I didn't fancy one like the modern ones. This looks interesting. Looks a bit like a more action oriented Another Code.

The Dark World Music...

Ahhh...

A Link to the Past...

When the Zelda series reached its first peak, one of the greatest 2D games of all time and when Nintendo didn't start naming their games after random objects.

Pity there's not a return to quite the same style as A Link to the Past.

Yeah I prefered the titles with Link in them.
This game looks awesome, I am pleased to see that Nintendo are putting as much effort into the DS as they would a home console and are really supporting the system with stellar software.
Zelda for me is best played birds eye view, but then I grew up on the retro games and my favourite is still and always will be A Link to the Past with the excellent Links Awakening a close second.
Hearing the music from the trailer gives me nostalgia, Zelda lost something for me when it went 3D, even though the 3D games are brilliant.

Although the last lines in this seem a bit fanboyish... I think I have to agree. Nintendo is really nailing games with the DS! The Revolution promises this same "innovation" theme an that fact alone has me excited.

As for Zelda... two games in one year! Gaming bliss!

there are too many good DS games coming out this year I don't even have time to play the ones I have already. But this looks great. That trick in the video where you draw the path of your Boomerrang to hit switches thats just cool

Yeah, if Nintendo is putting this much amazingness into its handeld games, hopefully the Revolution versions will be correspondingly amazingly brilliant, i.e. superb.

Then again, I think that Mario Sunshine was worth buying a Gamecube for on its own, so I'm probably going to be physically blown away by the Revolution.

I can't afford all these games either. As a student, I don't have a job, and I've already given up eating and alcohol. What other options are there!

Yeah, but with two games in one year Ninty are gonna have to keep the puzzle solving elements feeling fresh. If I had one crit of Zelda it's that the puzzle solving elements can become a bit formulaic.

Yeah, I'm bad, There… I actually criticised Zelda.

Bring it on.
