Shadow of Colossus wipes up at GDC Awards

Guitar Hero and Nintendogs pick up awards for innovation

Shadow of the Colossus was the recipient of five of the top awards at the Best 6th annual Game Developers Choice Awards which took place at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Jose earlier today.

The awards ceremony is considered by many in the industry to be the one that matters as it is organised by the International Game Developers Association (IGDA) and is the only awards ceremony in the industry by developers for developers.

Nominations were free of charge and open to all IGDA members, ensuring that the nominees reflect the international development community’s opinions. The IGDA membership voted on the finalists.

"Game creators have earned the recognition we give other celebrities such as movie stars and pop singers, and they’ve provided an undeniable contribution to world culture in light of the hours of entertainment they deliver,” said Jamil Moledina, director, Game Developers Conference. “Games really are a 21st century art form, and our goal in hosting and producing the Game Developers Choice Awards is to validate the achievements of these creative artists.”

Shadow of the Colossus took home a total of 5 awards including awards for Innovation, Game Design, Character Design, Technology and Visual Arts.

Having not played SOC I can't dispute it's claim to Best Game.

My personal choice would be a flip between Mario Kart DS or Animal Corssing: Wild World.
