Auto Assault "value-added" collector's pack

Loads of free tat with car smashing MMO

If you are a fan of getting lots of free bits and bobs along with your boxed copy of a game you’ve been looking forward to playing, then NCSoft’s Auto Assault is really going to satiate your out-of-control desire to accumulate tat.

NCsoft Europe has announced details of the new Auto Assault Collector's Edition, claiming that it is the “most bumper packed, goodie filled MMO ever”. In addition to the full game client, the Collector’s Edition of the online smash-em-up includes an exclusive ‘in-game pet’ (a mini RC car!), a key ring, a sound track CD, a poster, collectable postcards, bumper sticker, a headset with microphone for in-game chats, a fold-out road map of the Central Wastelands and a whopping 96-page colour manual to help get you started. No sign of a cuddly toy. Bastards!

Additionally, players that preorder will receive an exclusive in-game weapon, a four day head start, loot bonus and exclusive access to the final weeks of the game beta. The price of the preorder box is fully redeemable against both the Collector's and the Standard editions.

According to the Korean marketing gurus at NCSoft, this “sets a new precedent for deluxe releases.”

According to one wag in the SPOnG office “it sets a precedent for Korean software giants trying to get poor unsuspecting normal people addicted to crack-like online games!”

Auto Assault, as we’ve noted before, is a welcome addition to the rapidly growing number of massively multiplayer games out there. Mainly because it involves smashing up futuristic cars in a neon-lit sci-fi landscape, and not sharpening broadswords or befriending wood elves.

Preorder boxes will be available in stores across the UK from March 17 and will be the only way to access the beta shortly after that date. The limited edition Collector's Edition carries a suggested retail price of £44.99 / €64.99.

Now if only the game was good, it would almost seem worth it.

No, I'm making a baseless assumption that the game will be a leisure suit larry rip off, with cars, and a rabid bunny, possibly with some FPS fondling, yet overall a meaningless experience.

Of course I've played it, it's called beta testing, and it's horrible.

If a game is good in beta, then it's either
a)made by Blizzard

or

b)it's made by Blizzard and your actually playing the full retail version

I mean it's a MMOG, for one. And it's beta for two. The concept is great. I'm exciting. I'm sure it'll shape up before release.
