SPOnG has to draw your attention to an interview with Metroid Prime Hunter’s developers which has just been released in Nintendo’s own online VIP Lounge.
What with MPH being our most anticipated DS title of 2006, we were eager to hear what their guys from Nintendo Software Technology (NST) in Redmond, Washington, have been up to over the last year, since offering us that tantalising but criminally short demo glimpse of the game when we first got hold of our DS all those months ago.
NST's game director Masamichi Abe and game designer Richard Vorodi certainly have been pretty busy over the last year, having added into MPH the awesome four-player worldwide Wi-Fi connectivity feature, as well as a shedload of other essential must-have-now gameplay features.
When asked what they’ve been up to since E3 last May, Vorodi gets straight to the point: “Single player became more sophisticated, while multiplayer got meaner and headed online. That’s what we’ve been up to since May."
Abe then runs through the
seven multiplayer game modes, which are Battle mode (players compete to see how many opponents they can defeat within a certain amount of time; Survival mode (player who survives to the end is the winner); Bounty mode: (player picks up an item called the 'Octolith' and carries it to the goal to score); Challenge mode (players battle for control of an area); Prime Hunter mode (kind of like inverse tag); Capture mode (teams of players battle for control of Octoliths); and finally, Nodes mode (players battle to control a circular area called a Node).
All of the above multiplayer modes are available in both online Wi-Fi play with Friends and Rivals and local wireless play. Suffice to say that Metroid Prime Hunters promises to be the ultimate multiplayer online game for a handheld.
With six new bounty hunters in the game, in addition to the mighty and beautiful Samus, a load of new heavy weaponry to choose from and various cool features via the game’s website (including a voicechat enabled Wi-Fi feed, stats of best players and so on) it’s a no brainer. Buy this as soon as you possibly can. Use essential food money if necessary and also lose weight at the same time.
If you are really skint and have to buy a DS as well, then look on the bright side - you are going to become much slimmer and most probably be considered much more attractive by the opposite sex. You'll also have constant access to the best online handheld videogaming experience available right there in the pocket of your jacket or jeans. It's a win-win situation.
The official game site is
right here. The game’s out March 20 in the US and May 5 in Europe.
