Justice for stunningly original PS2 title.

It’s great news for original and innovative gaming this week. Sony’s wonderful Shadow of the Colossus has jumped straight to the top of this week's all formats Top 40, as supplied by ChartTrack, thanks in part no doubt to last week’s half-term school hols. You can see SPOnG’s review of this groundbreaking game here Shadow of the Colossus pipped LucasArts' new Star Wars: Empire at War for the top slot last week, with the first ever Star Wars RTS coming in at number two.

Total software sales shot up last week by 57% in units, with PC being the week’s highest selling software format, largely due to the start of a super-budget promotion by one of the major retailers.

PS2 software sales were more than healthy last week, what with the splendid news of the storming release of Shadow of the Colossus and the re-release of the classic ICO (straight in at 23) along with all the usual EA suspects: Need for Speed, Sims 2, FIFA 06 (dropping down the chart to numbers three, five and six respectively) whilst Rugby 06 charges up the chart to number four.

Growing interest in the Winter Olympics is no doubt behind the continuing success of Take 2’s Torino 2006, which breaks into the top ten at number seven. Buena Vista’s movie cash-in Chicken Little is the week’s highest climber, going up 18 places from 28 to 10.

Atari’s graffiti-sim Marc Ecko’s Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure was the week’s other new entry – in at 25. Shame you can’t buy it in Australia
