Take a close look at the two men on the right. They are to play key roles in the future of the videogame industry over the next few years.
Nintendo has just appointed the chappie at the top, Laurent Fisher, as European Marketing Director and the fella at the bottom, Achim Schmauß, for the role of European Brand Manager for Home Console, as it readies itself for the release of the Revolution later this year.
Laurent Fisher is replacing Jim Merrick in the role of Senior Marketing Director. Fisher, 37, previously held the position of Marketing Director for Nintendo France. He is now responsible for planning and co-ordinating the European marketing for all of Nintendo’s products, including the forthcoming Revolution control. The man’s sure got a job to do and SPOnG wishes him well in what is bound to be a tough year for Nintendo.
Fischer began working with Nintendo back in 1998 in the customer services department. Soon after, he moved across to become the product manager for handheld products and worked on the launches of Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance and Game Boy Advance SP, before being promoted to Marketing Director of all brands for Nintendo France. So we can rest assured that he knows his stuff.
Commenting on his new appointment, Fisher had the following to say: “Nintendo is moving into a very exciting and innovative time as we expand the definition of gaming and broaden the population of video game players….I am now looking forward to the new challenge of working for Nintendo at a European level in this particularly significant period.”
Achim Schmauß is, at 35, two years Fisher’s junior, and joins the Nintendo Europe team as European Brand Manager for home console, bringing with him over eight years of marketing experience. Schmauß will also be responsible for the Pan-European marketing for Nintendo GameCube, including the much-anticipated launch of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. What a dream job!
