Nintendo Downplays Rumoured Monday Announcement
Speaking to SPOnG US today, Nintendo of America downplayed talk that a major announcement is slated for Monday 16th of this month, following rampant speculation that a bombshell is slated for the day.

Two independent sources, one being reputed importer Lik-Sang, report that Nintendo is planning to show the much-anticipated redesigned DS hardware, a full report on which you can read here. The online store writes, “...here at Lik Sang too we have received word a couple of days ago from a Japanese contact stating Nintendo will have a formal announcement of the re-design [of the DS] on Jan 16th."

Other speculation has hinted at the final secrets of the Revolution being shown, though again no specific source was cited.

Speaking to us today, Nintendo America spokesman JC Smith explained, “We have no announcement scheduled for the 16th. There may be a showing of product to retail, though that will comprise items already announced and in the public domain.”

Time will tell. Our long-established contacts within the Japanese press are claiming that they have nothing scheduled from Nintendo on Monday, a US national holiday we should note. Check back next week and we'll let you know either way.

Yes, but NoA are being truthful with you, because it would be Nintendo Japan that make the announcement, it would be nothing to do with NoA until afterwards.

Either way, you don't want speculation from fanboys and whatnot to get out of hand here.

Megaton, anyone?

I wouldn't call Lik-Sang, one of the biggest importer/exporter of videogames and systems, a fanboy, somehow... When a company stands up and says it's been told about an upgraded system, you should really take notice, especially as it could impact their current sales until such time as the new system is available.

Well not long to wait to see what happens, I hope the speculation is true as ive been delaying getting a DS because of talk of there being a re-design soon.

Oh no, I didn't mean Lik-Sang by any means. In fact, I'm not exactly referring to any respectable publication at all. The Megaton fiasco was all catalysed by the readers dreaming up insane things for said announcement, not the websites who reported only the mere facts of the matter.

I just don't want people reading this to be expecting too much only to have their hopes ripped apart. Mind you, Megaton had a longer timespan between its 'announcement' and the actual event.
