Beatmania Da! Finger Dancing Edutainment for PS2?
Mavis Beacon might be the queen of typing tutors but now the ‘genre’ is slowly being further developed. Sega released the excellent Typing of the Dead at the end of last year, which was a bizarre combination of House of the Dead and a typing simulator. It featured several gameplay elements such as multiple game routes and multiple attacks.

Sunsoft was next on the typing scene with Ashita No Joe Typing. This typing game involved boxing by typing. The faster you managed to input words the more damage your character would do in the game. If you weren’t quick enough you would end up with your back on the mat.

Konami are the latest video game company to jump on the typing bandwagon. Konami are famous for games like Metal Gear Solid, Silent Scope and Beat-mania. Recently they have announced they are combining their dancing game, Beat-mania with a Typing interface.

Beatmania Da! will be a music and rhythm game for the PlayStation 2 that is played with a keyboard instead of a dancing mat. As various letters fall down the screen the player must correctly enter them as they cross the line. As the tempo increases so does the difficulty and fun of the game. Beatmania Da! Will have over nineteen songs to listen and type to.

It would seem that Sega created a monster and now that monster is well and truly alive and spreading to other developers. Seriously, there are always points awarded for originality and making learning fun is the way to go. It is not presently known if Beatmania will be released in the UK, but of the other typing games sell well, you can be it will!
