As you will have heard, Nintendo has another surprise in store for those eagerly awaiting the launch of its Revolution home console. Shigeru Miyamoto made some interesting comments late last year, hinting that the controller isn't the only thing to note about Nintendo's new machine. These comments were backed up by an announcement on the Nintendo Europe website.
On an as-yet-unannounced date in 2006 Nintendo will launch its next home console, code-named 'Revolution' - which will truly spark a revolution in gaming. We've already been given a sneak peek at its potential with the revelation of the groundbreaking one-handed controller with motion-sensitive technology. We already know that Revolution will let you play all your Nintendo GameCube titles and also a back catalogue of downloadable Nintendo classics. But if you think that's all there is to know about Revolution, think again... 2006 is going to be very interesting indeed.
Various pieces of speculation have cropped up as to what this might be, with perhaps the most interesting (if least likely) seeing Nintendo release a floor-projector peripheral. As seen at Nintendo booths at both E3 and Leipzig, a device that notes where a player touches on a floorspace has been mooted. SPOnG sees this as somewhat unlikely for several reason, not least the fact that the average Japanese living room is the size of a coffee table and of course, the technology Nintendo used during its shows was that of
Reactrix an agency specialising in interactive marketing.
Though there are some claims that Nintendo has patented similar technology known as Nintendo Floor Vision, stemming from unconfirmed Japanese reports.
In other news, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata again noted in an interview that the emerging console will be less expensive than the machines of its rivals, noting specifically that the Revolution will be under the asking price of the 360 Core System. ($300)
