Pikmin ‘Lead Lifestyle Game’ For Revolution
News from Kyoto reaching SPOnG this morning paints an interesting picture for the Revolution, with Pikmin the latest title to be confirmed by those close to Nintendo Japan.

The series, a personal passion of Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto, is set to be shown at E3 in some detail next May, with the game touted as “Nintendo’s lead lifestyle game”, a description from our long-term and trusted source in Japan

The news comes from the same source that passed unto us some of the biggest Nintendo news this year, with Iwata’s GDC Zelda-revealing keynote offered, as was the final unveiling of the Revolution controller at the Tokyo Game Show; the slippage of Twilight Princess into 2006; and most recently, the as-yet unannounced Mario Paint DS

But why Pikmin? “Pikmin is the perfect game to get people who might not be gamers using and understanding the Revolution’s controller. The idea is that the controller just sits in the palm of the hand in the user’s lap and doesn’t require mush more input than channel-hopping would. Pikmin for Revolution will also slowly unveil more functionality of the controller. From using it to point, more special manipulation will build with the result – a new Rev user who understands what they are dealing with.”

When contacted for comment today, a Nintendo representative told SPOnG, “We haven’t announced our E3 software line-up yet.”

This news rides nicely on the back of today’s non-news from Nintendo, widely and comically misreported across the Internet.

Stay tuned for all breaking Nintendo news, as ever, right here on SPOnG.

Don't know if this is true but there's a rumour going around that Nintendo (as in EAD) is actually working on a FPS. Not Retro, not NST but Nintendo's internal team.

Japanese people making a FPS... could get fun, however it was Miyamoto who suggested making Metroid Prime first person, Retro orginal design was a third person view.

Yeah Majin I got the Mario Kart and I really have to say it plays beautifully, I'm now wondering if I'm gonna have to import a wi-fi USB connector for the DS to get it online. I'm so surprised all the big game stores didn't know about the wi-fi adapter.

I agree with you on the 360 biz too. Apart from the nice HDTV displayed graphic theres little to excite me apart from a few japanese games way down the pipeline. I'll buy one, maybe in the new year.

Interesting stuff Optimus, and Miyamoto did have a look at one developers FPS at E3 according to Edge mag or something I read recently (maybe I'm clutching at starys here). If this is true it spells two positive notes.

The first is that Nintendo have learned that they have to bend and vary their output to cater for those in and more so outside of japan to survive. If Miyamoto requested this for two GC Metroid games to be FPS and is currently working on the DS version, he and his legion at Nintendo might then perhaps be having a look deeper into the FPS well.

Secondly recent hits like Far Cry, Half Life 2 and Halo 2 show we have a taste for these kinds of games. Even after a couple of E3s they are wising up, especially so after Metroid Primes and Echoes sold better outside of japan, that surely bodes we for the future.

Whether Nintendo wanna make another different FPS of their own or just find a good one from outside developers to have on the Rev, time will tell. After losing so much support they have to act to stay in the game and I'm sure we are all for that.

A new Mach Rider game would be nice indeed as an FPS or TPS, go on Nintendo.

I doubt Nintendo as in an NCL team would make an FPS. They saw MP as a massive RISK and remember - the game didn't sell in Japanland as well as it otherwise would. Remeber the Famitsu polls showing massive disillusionment as the news?

Also, the Japanese have zero experience in FPS-development. I very much dount they'll take it upon themselves to crank one out. What's the point when they could just buy a decent western studio to do it for them and to a higher standard?
