News from Kyoto reaching SPOnG this morning paints an interesting picture for the Revolution, with Pikmin the latest title to be confirmed by those close to Nintendo Japan.
The series, a personal passion of Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto, is set to be shown at E3 in some detail next May, with the game touted as “Nintendo’s lead lifestyle game”, a description from our long-term and trusted source in Japan
The news comes from the same source that passed unto us some of the biggest Nintendo news this year, with
Iwata’s GDC Zelda-revealing keynote offered, as was the final unveiling of the
Revolution controller at the Tokyo Game Show; the
slippage of Twilight Princess into 2006; and most recently, the as-yet unannounced
Mario Paint DSBut why Pikmin? “Pikmin is the perfect game to get people who might not be gamers using and understanding the Revolution’s controller. The idea is that the controller just sits in the palm of the hand in the user’s lap and doesn’t require mush more input than channel-hopping would. Pikmin for Revolution will also slowly unveil more functionality of the controller. From using it to point, more special manipulation will build with the result – a new Rev user who understands what they are dealing with.”
When contacted for comment today, a Nintendo representative told SPOnG, “We haven’t announced our E3 software line-up yet.”
This news rides nicely on the back of today’s
non-news from Nintendo, widely and comically misreported across the Internet.
